This is to say thanks to folks, and share a success story.

I tend to stay kinda quiet, in read mode, and contribute when I can without being redundant. I've had my truck for 1. 5 years now, and for folks that remember, was having all sorts of smoking issues, injector issues, air in the lines, kinda the poster boy for fuel delivery problems on a 1992.

I was working towards solutions, but had to shelve the truck twice (and this forum) for long periods of time due to loosing family members.

Finally, when I could justify it's importance, I got back on it. I debugged all issues except the air down to a failing injection pump. My PW injectors were getting plugged once a week. My shutdown selenoid was plugged within a few days after cleaning by metal debris. I had lots of smoke, roughness, but loosing power. A new pump was ordered through Piers, at an excellent competative price, pre-tweaked and shipped to my door, with tons of fast email support on how to find true TDC, and debug other nit problems before installing. Awesome help.

Tom and City Diesel in Decatur helped with the injectors, and although new, two had to be rebuilt. All had to be cleaned up. That much shrapnel was coming out of the old pump.

The members in this forum, through posts on problems and solutions, helped me install and debug this thing in the first place, along with the air issue I had.

I took an afternoon off, used the dropping the valve method to find true tdc (about 4mm off in my case), reset the TDC pin, turned my motor back 1/8th inch, installed my pump timed at 1. 25 so turning the motor made it 1. 4mm lift (instructions from Piers, thanks), installed my newly cleaned injectors, and about 6 hours after starting the job had the truck running up the road.

I never knew what I was missing. Toward the end, my truck would barely do 70 mph. Now it almost does that in 4th gear with a 3. 54 rear end, and 5th gear goes into 90 easily. Nice light black haze when I get on it, and traction problems galore if on dirt and flooring in 3rd or 4th! So, all the power, hardly none of the smoke.

Thanks tdr, piers, city diesel, stabco, and all for posts, solutions, problems, etc.

Jon.

Congratulations!

Congrats Nordby!:D

A great read & a wonderful success story!

My truck also had a failing pump when I purchased it... . I too was surprised what a visit to JRE for a new pump, injectors & accurate pump timing could do for the ole girl!

Smoke on, Brother!

KEENO :)
