Competition Carrolton pull results

Many many thanks to the guys and gals that took the time and mechanical risk to attend our pull. As of tonight I am way two tired to put all of my thoughts in this post but I will try.

The bombers that were there impressed me with the professional way they prepared and handled the rigs they brought. So nice to see those who will help another vehicle even if that vehicle may knock them out of a high placing.

We did have some difficulty with the track conditions and sled settings. It made for a very long day, however I saw no sniping or complaning among the truck drivers.

Our sponsors were a great help, they make the show so much easier for a all volunteer group.

Thanks to Ag West and David Granger for supplying the large equipment.

Farmers Equipment for the small McCormick tractors.

Happy birthday Terry!! (thanks for the sandwich)

Special thanks to the bunch at Piers Diesel. Piers and his group have been very supportive of our clubs involvment with pulling 4X4 pickups. I hope they had as much fun being there as we did having them as guests and participants.

The final results could be better posted by someone else. But here are the top 3 in heavy 4X4s.

Jesse #1 in a 03 a great full pull and 2nd hook. Beautiful truck and very well equipped. Congrats to a great job and a show of power.

Hoss #2 another great full pull and 2nd hook. Just came up short on the pulloff. Nice to see the hossmobile with a full head of steam and hear the tires squeal on wet clay!!!

#3 Ben Stite with a 01 Dodge Cummins 2500 short box

Great show of power by the Dodge/Cummins combo, any doubters of how much more torque can be generated in the little 5. 9 very quickly had to change the mindset.

On behalf of the pulling crew THANKS AGAIN

Thanks Bob, we had fun.

You and your crew put on a great show and busted your butts with that track.

Yes again the top trucks were Dodge.

A couple of Fords pulled and did ok. I wish that Duramax didn't chicken out, as it would have been interesting to see what he could have done. Glad we helped convert that chevy fan you know into buying a dodge when he buys his next truck.

I only placed 6th with 235' but atleast I didn't break anything. :eek: Some broken rears, burnt clutches and some broken universals. :{

30,000#

Yes Mark is correct about 30,000#+ is where our sled is. I gave a small speach at the drivers meeting on how difficult it is to start this much weight on a clay track. Went on to explain low range in a four wheel drive truck and how this is where they should all start. There were still about four or 5 trucks thet had to try direct. It sure did not work at our track in Sumas. Saw some broken parts because of that oversite. Seemed to work best if they could spin the tires out of the hole and keep with it insted of loading the driveline untell something broke.

How the sled works

In a nut shell.

Imagine a semi trailer, wheels on the back of two frame rails, insted of a fifth wheel hitch on the front there is a steel skid sheet (called a pan) that rests on the ground. You hook to a chain on the skid sheet and start to pull. The wheels on the rear of the sled are geared to a roller chain that pulls a weight filled box on the rear of the frame rails forward. Thus transfering weight forward off of the wheels and onto the skid sheet as you move forward. The sled thus gets progressivly harder and harder to pull as you move down the track. There are two transmissions nose to nose in the driveline so the sled operator can have the weight move forward slower (for smaller tractors or trucks) or faster (for more powerful trucks or tractors). Our sled has over 20 gear selcctions so has to be a knowledgable operator in the seat. Give a hand to Jeff Kentch our operator.

Hope this helps

Jeff is a heck of a guy!!!!

He does not like to get beat!!

I have got him (full pull) three times now but he always wins sooner or later!

At Sumas the first time I pulled I made two consecutive full pulls and when we backed up for the third time he got off the sled walked up to my truck (I had never met him) stuck his big melon in my window and said " You ain't gonna make no full pull this time boy!!!!" If you have ever seen Jeff he is an intimidating sight!!!

I did not make a third full pull!:(

I have a video of BBD around here somewhere... :--) Just as long as he doesn't go first to set the full pull... That would be bad. :D But seriously... I would love to see him pull. Oo.
