That Dang Yoke Nut!!!!

Ok; Three times now I 've crawled under that drive train and disconnected the drive shaft and tightened down that yoke nut to the spec'd 380N-m (280ft-lb) torque.



Any ideas out there on why this is happening? I got a funny feeling there might be some vibrations there that might be causing this to happen! Anyone else experiance this and have a remedy?

If you have had any work done the lock nut needs to be replaced. Alot of shops( and people) don't and get away with it all the time. Replace the nut and you should be rid of your troubles.

I will second the above. I ruined a Dana 60 ring and pinion for want of a new nut.

I'll give mopar a call tomorrow for a new Yoke Nut and Yoke Seal. Thanks for the advice . I just hope I don't have to spend the rest of my life under the power train of my truck (Nice place to visit but I wouldn't wanna live there... If you know what I mean).



Maybe a tube of lok-tite outta keep that sucker on eh!!

I think that you may have more of a problem than

the pinion nut loosening. If the bearings wear enough to allow the pinion to move all you have

probably taken out or damaged some of the pinion

bearing preload shims. If that happens and you

torque the nut to sped'd torque you will now have excessive preload on the bearings and they will

wear causing the nut to seem as if has loosened.

To be done properly you need to check the condition of the bearings and replace as necessary

and then set the preload to proper specifications.

It is a good idea to use a new lock nut as a

safe guard but from what I have seen personally

I doubt that reusing the same nut had anything to

do with your yoke loosening. If you choose to try

just using a new nut, match mark the nut and the

pinion, then if your yoke ends up loose again you

will know if the nut has moved.
