Well,

It's looks like I might be in for my 3rd VP44... truck sputtered out and died in the intersection again today... #@$%! . . this is my 3rd pump in 75K miles... the last pump I put in from II, I also did the Fass system, and the Vulcan Draw straw so I wouldn't have to deal with that POS lift pump... the CEL has been coming on for a while yet but have been unable to pull a code... if it is the pump. . I will know tomorrow , I will get it up again, and it's going down the road... I've always been a Chevy guy since my second car... and I will likely go back... actually looking forward to it... was never a Dodge fan, but the Cummins made a lot of sense to me. . Oh well...

which fass is it ? do u have the pump wire tapped? where did u locate the fass ? what fuel filter are u using? sorry for dumb questions just want to know whats going on a little better, your sig is a little short in info

BD 11's, HX 35, AFE 7, 4 in. , Comp box, with Blue Chip cover..... VP44 now has 10 months, and maybe 8K miles... 95GPH Fass with there mounted next to tank in area recommended by them... The comp box is always on 2, don't have a need to run it on any higher levels...

Sorry to hear that. Understand totally why you are fed up. Replaced 3 pumps in 60K miles myself. Rely heavily on my fuel pressure gauge.

Forced to admit that I have felt like dumping mine many, many times. I too just keep upgrading and replacing parts. Last month I lost a reverse band and had to rebuild my expensive DTT after only 40K towing miles!

Why do I fix this machine? I can't find a model new or used that is any better than what we have. The Fords, Chevys and Dodges each have their unique weak points.

We will be looking very closely at the Sterling Bullet 4500 this fall. Hope this truck may be the "Magic Silver Bullet"!

basically a taped wire only with the cover that makes it harder to detect hmmm

as for the chevy ata boy

Pump should still be warrantied but electronics are not..... To put in electronic module is cheaper than a new pump. Give II a call.

Try the factory in-tank pump

Its the best set-up to reduce cavitation and areation which is devstating to a high pressure injection pump.

Please send it in and let me see what I can do for you. If you are pulling a 216 DTC then you may need to check a few things. That is a timing code and there are more things to consider than Injection pump. If you don't know our number it is 1-800-955-0476 Thanks

Thanks guys for the interesting posts... as far as the tapped pump... I'd have to be honest with the vendor...

Brett... thanks for your offer... very considerate...

Heres what I found... I had no fuel going to the pump, because my fuel sending unit was wacked out... in other words, it was reading I had a 1/4 of a tank, but in reality I was empty... the cel came on because I didn't disconnect the lift pump harness, and it threw a code... so I replaced the float assy, and at the same time put in a Draw Straw... that should take care of it ...

I too will find it hard to part with this truck considerin' the new prices...

Still love the new D-Max... .

I have been a Chevy guy since I was a kid... . couldn't stand the thought of driving another brand before Dodge installed the Cummins engine & supplied it in a truck with a solid front axle. I also couldn't stand the thought of hooking 15k# trailers up to my hitch & thinking I'm gonna pull mountains with a Isuzu engine & have a reliable truck. The Dmax trucks also have overheating issues that you don't want to get involved in. I'm glad that you found the problem. Just my $. 02

Yeah... .

Even for the VP44 your failure rate is really high. I would think possibly something else is at the root cause.

Sorry for your troubles;

Jim
