here it goes i just put a #6 plate in and the pyrometer i put in front of the turbo and man am i get a lot of grief for putting it there, any how i was just ? if anybody has ever had one of them, the probe break off and eat the turbo or not, i guess i never gave it to much thought. and by the way its a di-pricol gauge if it makes any dif.

I dont think anyone has had a pre-turbo probe fail here on the TDR.

If they did, I hope they speak up! And tell us their story.

I use pre and post...

As I understand it all aircraft EGT probes are installed before the turbo and I dont think turbo failure is an option on airplanes. I have not seen or heard of a probe coming off.

I asked this same question, last summer, before I put my pre turbo probe in. I asked if any TDR member had FIRST HAND knowlege of any new probe breaking and taking out the turbo. Not one member ever had SEEN this happen. The best place for the probe is pre turbo... Lifes too short to worry about all the remote possibilities... ;)

My Dodge has over 139,000 miles and most of them were put on with the pyro probe located in the elbo after the turbo.

Today I installed new gauges (Di-Procol)and installed the probe in the manifold before the turbo. I can tell you there is around 150 - 200 degrees difference in the gauge readings. The gauge now moves very rapidly compared to after turbo location as well. I love the design of the gauges! The numbers light up at night as a "blue" color, and the exhaust temp (Pyro) turns red when it reads 1300 and above. They have white faces, and chromium rings.
