Airtab Tufting Experiment

I tufted my truck last year and under readers rigs or my profile you can let read my interpretation of what I seen. I have 36 Airtabs at the rear of truck with camper shell, then 4 more in front of each rear wheel well, and a couple more on the front bumper fascia. I like the idea of a hood installation and look forward to more information from Wally.

Following quote has been answered (kinda) "Has anyone tried gluing the tabs to a piece of that magnetic sign sheeting, then attaching the tabs to the truck magnetially?"



I bought 20 ft of magnetic sign material and am currently working this idea with my hood. The ones I had on the hood have been removed for maintenance purposes (Polishing out water spots). ONe big thing I noticed was that the buffetting is back with out them. Running down a two lane with an oncomming semi, I can feel the buffet from the wind during the pass. So this is 1 reason I like them on the hood. As far as bug deflection goes, (SO, SO). My original intent was for rock deflection. They wont help there. Where they do help is with the wind shield washer fluid at 60 mph. Instead of being blown all over, it just come up and lays down on the winshield.



So the biggest reasons I have for having them on the hood is the buffeting in high wind and the washers.



I am working the magnetic base idea. My time has been a full work load with school and my job so this goes slow. I will try to have some results back in the next two weeks after I get them remounted. The problem with the magnetics is that if you go through a car wash, you will loose them. I know they won't come off of the truck with the tape (even when my pressure washer was set to 3,000 psi).



The one magnetic test airtab (individual) that I did on the hood seemed to hold ok at 60 mph but I would want to try up around 80 just to see.



The motor home that I put them on (friends) track very straight now with out drift and roll like it was. I have sold several hundred to other fellows with 5th wheels and they like the stability factor more then anything else it seems like. I am also waiting for data from an outfit in southern oregon that put them on their semi tractor and trailer. I should know something this Friday if I can get my hiny in gear and remember to call them.



If you put them on the hood, it is a definite attention getter with the chubby and ferds.

My other accessories are black. The roof mounted AirTab's you can't see.

All I can say is it keep's the dirt buildup on the rear window down. I haven't had a change to see if mileage difference on long distance drive?
