Well, my new truck is suppose to be in to Tommygun's shop this week. I'll hear tomorrow. I live in Frederick MD, which is 30 or so miles west of Baltimore. I wanted to avoid the PA Turnpike on the way back and was thinking of using I-64. I've been on 64 as far west as Charleston, WV. What's it like bewteen there and St. Louis? Or... . is I-70 the way to go and I need to stop whining and just deal w/ PA?

Fredneck to St. Louis... . You can always use I-68 across MD. Somewhat hilly as it follows the old US 40 route through Cumberland, then to US 40 West, to I-70. Yep, about 30 miles of the PA Turnpike, but that appears to be the most direct route. 770 miles. Enjoy the ride and have a safe trip. I haven't convinced "she who must be obeyed" that we actually need another diesel pickup... .
 
That sounds like a good route, and the hills will help break up the steady state driving to assist with a good break in. If you're like me, most of the ride will be with the windows open and radio off, listening to that sweet engine sound.

My plan would be to catch I-79 N at Charleston and then I-68 E at Morgantown for the final run into Fredneck. Almost wishing I had hadTommygun deliver it to a local dealer but... ... Crackin' up over the "she who must be obeyed" comment. Rumpole

i picked mine up last month at st louis and drove home to hagerstown, md. via I-70. there is enough construction on the pa turnpike to keep speeds up and down.



Route I-64 is also a nice road into I-81 but a bit longer.



you can also take I-70 to I-79 south to I-68 and avoid the turnpike.



whatever you decide it will be a great trip in the new rig, good luck.

It doesn't sound that much different than the older gens at speed, just idle is way different. It is going to be a lot more different than a gasser. I guess I see things a little differently, since this is my first diesel experience. You will have to straight pipe it, but use a piece of flex hose in place of the muffler. I heard one like that at Muncie and it sounded great. Much different than a straight pipe that replaces the muffler. Let the bombing begin!!!!





Edit: I just went back and looked at your first post, sig file. You have one already, an older one that sounds like a diesel should. You will miss the old sound, in fact, I almost feel cheated. My diesel doesn't sound like a diesel:(

Jengle, Actually, I'm looking forward to talking on the cell phone w/o asking folks to repeat what they just said all of the time. No performance BOMBing for now. I'm hoping I can deal w/ stock power for a while. :) Gauges, liner, a few other things. I'm not ready to be my own warranty station yet. If none of the 3rd gen. bug-a-boos crop up, well, maybe a little BOMBing... ... ... . ;)

I'm definately not going I64 to I81. Been there, done that too mant times already. That's why I'd take I79 north at Charlestown and catch I68 a Morganton. BTW How long did it take for you get back from St. Louis?
