Twin turbo dynoed HP...

Looking for more info

I spoke to J. R. about building a set of twins for me a couple days ago as well. . I already have the Sledpuller 66 turbo as a small turbo and I just recently bought a Big Brother for a bottom turbo. . I have to say he has to be a patient person, because I'm sure a lot of my questions didn't make much sense. . I've only been bombing on the cummins for a few months now. . I spoke to scheid diesel as well. . They are also helpful, and gave me an estimate that was very competitive... I've got to do more research and speak to him again to see what the difference is. .

wow, the Sp66 as a SMALL turbo ?!?

Thats a heck of a small turbo, and the Big brother as the big one, talk about some serious boost!

I would suggest that you give Mark Kendrick a call. We did a lot of research and spoke to a lot of other companies that are building a twin setup before deciding to go with Mark's. We used our HTTB2-KillerB and a B2. This combination worked out very well for us. This truck won the Bully Dog Dyno comp last weekend with 714 h/p and 1291 Torque (estimated). Later in the day it took 2nd place Sled Pulling in the Heavyweight super Mod class - losing only to Big Bad Dodge.

SLJolley--don't forget to add that Shane used NOS--even so his truck does run good-

Devildog---what did you end up doing????----chris

jaybigboy34,

I am running steroid B-1, best dyno to date with it is 610 uncorrected RWHP. I can tow a 8K trailer with the mach 6's all over the PA mountains (with the box turned down).

Doug

My sledpuller was the one Lenny made 617 uncorrected hp with and 817 with nitrous. . He sold it to me, and then took it off his truck. . I also went with the same nitrous system as well. . He's been a huge help with the project. .

The labor some shops charge to do the pipework on these things is rediculous. . On the other hand, I hate not to have someone that's experienced put together the finishing touches. .

I've decided to go with water/meth as well. . The pump has been sent off (again), and now it's supposed to have a minimum of 750cc's. . So between the pump, twins, nitrous, and W/M it should be pretty strong. . I don't hear much about propane. . Would a small amount make any difference??

anyone running haslieys 8x12 or bigger with twins an a auto? i will build my own set shortly and was thinking on how big of turbos i can run on the street and not smoke everyone out

Twins are expensive and appear to be alot of work... Are twins really worth the money and effort? Do they really help with the bottom end? Do you really feel the seat of the pants Improvement? How much horse power do you gain with twins over a single turbo?

Thank, Chas.

Some good discussion in this thread on twins v/s singles: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130070 Using your B1 on top, you are not likely to see a lot of bottom end gain as spool-up will be slower than it could be. Mostly top end, but a lot of top end.

"Best twins" is almost irrelevant in my book. They all do very well and flow very close to each other. If your looking for an advantage, I would pick a setup with a small top turbo, an external wastegate so you have room to tweak, and a shop with good customer service that you know will be there if you have questions…. and you will have lots of questions.

Most are starting to lean towards a B2 on the bottom v/s traditional primaries. Using your B1 on top would provide a generous cost savings. Probably save you more than you could get for a beat-up used B1. Olee Poole and Mark Kendrick (there are more I'm sure) both make kits for folks that want to use their existing B1 on top with a B2 on the bottom and a nice external wastegate for tweaking.

Will there really be any benefit of using the Sledpuller turbo on top rather than something a little smaller?? Once again, I know very little about all this, though I was thinking it could possibly at least make the operating temp a little lower. . Would this be true?

Morse,

Using a larger top turbo will normally increase "cruising temps" and decrease spoolup. The benefits would be lower peak egt's, and increase max HP.

Thanks JetPilot. .

I've found pics of Kendrick and Poole twins, does anyone have pics of Adkins or Scheid twins. . Curious. .

Morse, search under "Adkins twins" in this forum and you'll see some pics of J. R. 's twins that I posted a while back. They look twice as good now that they are painted. The seams are all tig welded and then ground down so the pipes are all smooth. You won go wrong with Adkins twins.

If you want the cleanest set up, go with Olee Poole!

I have seen everyone else and by far his is the best.

Remember, you can really only do this once, do it right.

Pooles twins do look great. . I just have to spend my money wisely because I have to complete the truck. . Building a competitive truck in a matter of a few months is startin' to hurt. . After the twins, I believe I'm gonna shorten it and install a shortbed. . Then a cage. . Then suspension work. . Then paint. . Then wheels and tires. . UGH... .

Hey Morse here's a pic of some Adkins Diesel Performance Twins on a P-pumped 24V. ;) :D

Hey, that's my truck :D That picture was taken right after we got them fabbed up. This picture doesn't do them any justice. Trust me, they look totally different now that they are painted. Not sure how you can get them any cleaner than this. Seams are all ground down. Nothing unnecessary. I had a set of Kendricks twins about 3yrs ago and I blew them up at Scheids on the dyno. After that, it was all Adkins stuff. He' s the one who done the p-pump conversion on this truck also. You won't be dissapointed if J. R. builds your twins, I guarantee it!
