5th Wheel Tailgates - What are you using?

airfoil pg21 issue 31 TDR

Well lets see what happens here... I know the Bros all have an opinion. Whats the best TT to get? Which is the best value? I don't need that fancy one with etched glass and stuff. Just a self contained comfy place to lay my head about 26' or so. I darn sure ain"t gonna go ask a salesman! #ad
I am considering used no wait lets call it "pre owned"!

Looking forward to the bros answers #ad

Stat, ckeck out the Aljo line. We looked at a bunch of different makes and like you I HATE the etched glass, mauve carpet, and the gold veined mirrior cabinet doors. We went for the basic but functional model. Aljo builds them tight, nice cabinets, solid floors, and functional floor plans. Now is the time of the year to buy as they are slow in sales and are willing to deal. We should get ours in about a week or two. I ordered a 2850(28ft. ) bumper pull. Chris

The Sunnybrook 26FK and 26CK's are yery popular. Go to 'rv.net' and click on 'rv buyers guide'(left side). Then click on 'rv mfgrs' on the next screen. Then click on any mfgrs name that is in blue print(they have web sites) and you can check out their stuff. Craig

I have a 2000 Komfort 24TT with slide out.
I have had very few problems with it and use it monthly.

It tows very well, it has shocks on both axles, about 8000 pounds. The key features me and the Boss (wife) looked for was value, counter space in the galley and storage.
We also purchased in the late winter and save over $4000 from the sticker.

Other features you might want to consider are:
Fridge size
auto start water heater
Size of holding tanks
double entry doors

THE MOST IMPORTANT!!!!!GVWR

Some travel trailers have less than 1000 pounds of capacity for all your items. The trailers will have a tag on the outside with the specs.

Hey Joe,

You are right about Airstreams holding their value. We bought a new one in 1976 27' and kept it until 1982 and sold it for what we gave for it. We bought a new 82 31' and kept it until 1988 and sold it for what we paid for it. We did store them inside a building and kept mats on the carpet and throw covers on the sofa so the interiors looked like new. The first "looker" that came by bought them in both cases.

I got the 5th wheel bug after that and bought a new 35' Argosy(made by Airstream)5th wheel with a slide-out, but the Airstream quality wasn't there. I sold that one in 1992 for about $2,500 less than I paid for it(felt darned lucky to get that!). I've had Hitchhiker 5th wheels after that experience and have been real satisfied with them, but they haven't held their resale like the Airstreams.

I have a HitchHiker. Very happy with it. 36' Dbl Slide. I'm thinking of selling it since I'm not getting as much use of it as I used to -- but only if I can get a reasonable price; people don't tend to pay fair price for a pre-owned trailer. Otherwise I'll keep it indefinitely. If I sell it I'll be buying a smaller trailer or maybe a slide in so I can tow a boat.

Mark,

I too am toying with the idea of selling our Hitchhiker. We doing most of our traveling in our Lance camper and the 5er just sets in the toy house. I like you am not going to give it away.

I guess my wife and I are getting older and don't like the hassle of towing a big trailer behind us. We like the self containment of the camper with the on board generator and the fact that the A/C cools it off rapidly in hot weather. My wife likes to have her potty and fridge with her at all times--even on our day trips.
