Well, it's started.

Been reading up, trying to learn what all to do and can be done. So far, in my first 10 minute bombing session, I've disconnected the EGR and removed the silencer ring.
I read that simply disconnecting the vacuum and plugging the line to the vacuum motor would trigger the check engine light, but I've driven it a good 40 miles or so this way with no problem. This is a '97 with a 5spd, BTW. My initial jaunt after this change FELT like the truck accelerated better and the turbo spooled quicker (engine fully warmed) than with the EGR connected, but that was probably my wishful thinking and not an actual performance increase, but I can hope! It'll have to work for now until I can get my hands on a Fed intake manifold and remove the EGR crap totally.
I just removed the silencer ring tonight and haven't driven it yet, but as I understand it this is more of a "Yes Virginia, there IS a turbo in there" mod to enhance the sweeet sound of the turbo and not one for performance?
In a couple of weeks I'm going to order the EGT and boost gauges and maybe this weekend I'll tackle skinning the cat.

Still have the stock muffler on there, my main concern about taking it off and putting in a muffler eliminator/straight pipe is getting excessive exhaust noise/drone inside the cab which I don't really want, buuuut less restriction is a good thing.
Right now I'm taking care of the essentials (gauges) and freebie/inexpensive mods, then shortly thereafter the more involved ones such as the intake and probably a TST plate.
While it's on my mind, does anyone know about Collins Diesel Injection here in Stockton? I may wander over there and see what they've got going on, I noticed a sticker of theirs on my intake, I'm guessing the previous owner took the truck there for maintenance since the truck is... er... was 100% stock before I got my hands on it.

Sorry for the rambling, but this is the most fun I've had playing with a vehicle in a long time.

The truck is such a dream to drive, we've got a '98 Jeep Cherokee and the truck is like a Caddy, I won't even compare it to the F250 I traded in for it... there is no comparison. The 2500 has more than 2x as many miles (127k) but is still as solid as a brand new one I drove, quiet, no squeaks or rattles. If it can withstand the vibes of the Cummins it's OK in my book.

Definitely the best vehicle I've ever owned hands down. Woo! Enough preaching to the choir, I'm going to bed.
