Enquiring minds want to know.

Is there any one thing that just makes you roll your eyes and shake your head in disgust on your truck?

I have several, but I want everybody else to get a shot at this, so I'll start with my #1 pet peeve.

Whoever the numbskull was that designed that freakin' hard to get to- upside down- gotta pull half the dang wiring harness outa the dash to work on it- POS plastic- FUSEBOX oughta be shot. I assume they are probably also responsible for the rest of the crappy wiring in these trucks.

Anybody else?:D

(Go ahead & vent... ... ... ... It'll make you feel better... ... )

Why did they put Michelin street tires on my 4WD. Not only were they useless offraod, they were pretty pitiful on road, too.

LEAKY, Leaky, leaky...

I seal the windsheld, seal the vents, check the exterior bed light, and door seals. So when it starts to rain I just line the kick panel floor areas with chamois. Oh yea, I try to avoid washing her unless I want to go drying up puddles and hanging out the floor padding! Great running rig, just too leaky...

I hate the crappy a$$ interior(more like inferior). This truck was built in the 90's but has a interior from the 70's. Everything from the lame a$$ sun visors to the lack of any small pockets or storage aside from the gargantuan center console is pretty lame. I ***** about it all the time to my wife and anyone who will listen about how my 89 FURD and my 83 Mazda sports car(extremly small one at that) had/have way better interiors. My only other gripe is the lack of a bench seat in the rear which is the one reason i put of buying one for so long. I have found alterantives to the jump seats but have yet to install one yet but will be soon. Thanks for your time I feel better allready.

The Getrag 360 transmission. Why would "they" put that

transmission behind a diesel when the NV4500 was

readily available and proven.

I would have to complain about the 1" to the bump-stops on the front end. Makes the ride a little harsh on anything bigger than a pebble:rolleyes:

I'd like to smack the engineer who invented that lower bottom screw on the injection pump on the block side of the pump. Also, why do they invent a bracket at the back of the pump and you can't get it off without removing the power steering pump. Also the water leaks and cowl cracks.

John

My complaint is that they built a truck that won't die:D Actually, I don't care much for the rear axle seals, the 518A with its weak TC, and the leaks. But for what $$$ I have in it and with 194K on the clock, I can't complain too loudly.

Jeremy

I look at it this way. For a company that was on the verg of closing the doors when our trucks were new. They made a good product to have lasted this long with few complaints.

Well for what I have in it and that you can put 2 tons in the bed and still get 13 mpg... I can't complain

But If I built the truck I would put a differnt trans in it maybe a fuller 6 or 9 speed . Better front springs, I would also have put some better brakes in it along with some higher rated tires on the single rear wheels. .

Other than that for a truck that is 11 years old still gets 18+ mpg and costs very little to opperate I am happy.

I just wish they still made new ones with leaf springs and lockout hubs in the front. I might buy one but untill then I will keep mine...

The bench seat sucks, gotta stop every 100 miles to take a walk . I got a seat out of a 95 I'm getting ready to put in , anyone have any tips ?

My 93 may be a throw back of a 70s truck but I love the 19-20 MPG and wouldn't trade it for any other .

At least we don't have to lie about our MPG like the Powersmoke guys. My buddy has been a Dodge man till recently he sold his new 2003 HO 6 Spd Dually because he didn't like the color and bought a 2001 Ferd 4 Dr Dually 6 Spd 4 x 4 , 2 weeks later he calls me whining that he only gets 11 MPG, he's selling it this week and going to get another Dodge.

I don't like the piece of crap Gutbag, the fusebox placement, the OE jack, the (very bouncy) bench seat, the door seals, the weak front springs, the control arm placement (my front left tire rubs it!), and the glovebox (too small, flimsy). That's about it.

But what do I like? That I have an awesome truck that can outpull anyone else in my school, and that is (very) loud.

It has it's foibles, but I love my truck.

What not Cheezie...

A trend here, no matter how much cheezie there is. There is more than enough life to grab by the HORNs to keep us all with that Cheezy Smile! Too bad they did'nt make the front grill out of metal, in chrome...

The cheeziest thing is that Daimler/Chrysler does not fully support out trucks with replacement parts past the 10 year minimum requirement!!!!

Don't mention "planned obsolescense" ... I hate that word.

Jay

My paint sucks. Topcoat is peeling from primer. Strange thing is it's only on the driver's side front fender and the passenger's side bed rail.

Sean

I tend to agree with Formula. My son's truck is peeling on the hood, roof, fenders, and the bed. Also I think the headlight switch is pretty weenie.

The cheesiest thing I can think of is the transfer case skidplate/crossmember. Just the way it hangs down looks cheesy to me. It's funny you guys mention the fuse block. When I bought my truck it was hanging loose. The owner thought it was broken and didn't know what to do with it. I was surprised how cheesy the mounting is, but, I figured it out.

I guess I got a good one, because a lot of the problems mentioned in this thread and others just haven't been a problem on mine (yet). The Getrag is even still going! Glad mine has the bucket seats too. :D

The power, capability, durability and mpg of this truck makes any of those cheesy things tolerable for me. The best thing is when your powersmoke lovin' buddy finally gives up arguing and buys a first gen because his 'stroke wasn't up to the heavy hauling he does!

Well,... ... when was the last time you hit the horn on your truck and liked that... ... ... ... . LAME !!!!

My Mrs, says it flat out sucks and she is more likely to use oral inducements or, American Sign Language (simplified version) than the horn ;) :p

Bob.

The transfer case lever really annoys me when its buzzing. Actually I don't notice it anymore, but ever girl that rides with me has a hard time figureing what it is that is making that noise. Also have to agree with the front springs, skyjacker fixed that for me. No diesel should leave the factory without a posi-unit installed. let me drive some more, I'm sure I can find some more things to gripe about, I know the people behind me do:D:D :D :D alonzo

the cheesiest thing is that our trucks (first gens) are the last of the REAL trucks out there. other than a f350 ford and a pre 93 chev 1ton where could you find a dana 60 and 70 with a np205.

i think also they shouldve contacted mr. delorean and made a stainless steel body for our trucks. the extra weight wouldve made it ride better and for those in the rust belt finding body parts would be eaiser after 300k.

just my $. 05
