Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Two questions?

Well this year my truck is set up a little different than last year, Edge Comp and DD2's. Last year I had BD's PNP 2. Again with the colder weather the truck has the shudder back under light to moderate load with the comp on. When the comp is off the shudder is either gone or or so slight I can't feal it. I already checked the voltage at the pump wire, I have BD's pump cover, and the voltage is good, and I also tried dielectric grease on all the connction to the comp with no luck. Last year I got a new PNP under waranty and I never had a problem again. My brother-in-law now has my old PNP and his truck is fine. Also the fuel pressure gauge has a slight bounce that matches the pulses of the shudder. Is anyone else back in the same boat?

I was towing my boat and camper up to Canada to go fishing and I had my Comp set on level one and it seemed to run a little rough?? When it is off it seems to run a lot smoother. I have DD3's and they make enough power to pull without the Comp. But I've noticed that when I'm unloaded and put the box on level 5x5 and put the pedal down at 1,500 rpm it is very rough. I called DD and he said I was lugging it and could damage a rod bearing and said not to be that low with my rpm's and it should be no less than 1,800 rpm's. I tried it again at 2,000 and it still stuttered and didn't seem right. It is only about 40 degrees. I don't have any ideas yet but was probably going to call Edge and ask them.

Hay I just noticed you are from CT. I grew up in Middlebury and my first girl friend lived in Southington. Pretty cool. :D

Mine too. This is the first winter with my 02, but it has the same cold weather shudder as my 01. I think i will go back to stock injectors or maybe 275's till the weather warms up. My 01 cleared up a bunch, but not entirely, when I replaced the 2's with 275's last winter.

Me too

Yup, mines back again too. debombing seems to help, but it is still there totally stock. Oh well, screw it, i figure let it shake, it doesn't seem to get worse as time goes on. It is what it is, i'm tired of looking for a cure, i think its in the programming of the ecm. Ive been reflashed, and it was of no help. I just cant figure out why in the heck everyone doesn't have it if is a programming issue. Oh well guess we are the lucky few:rolleyes:

Me too!

I've noticed mine lately too. But I haven't seen 40 degrees yet, more like 50's-60's. I never noticed it this summer, but it's back now. Weird thing is, even during the heat of the day (70's to 80's now), it still does it?!?!?!

I'm in

I too have the winter shutter. I replaced the comp box 3 times and no change. Every time I talk to Arron at Edge he says he knows what the problem is but wont say exactly. Says it's inherent in the engine and the mods just amplify it  I heard tell it to be caused by the computer advancing the timing when below a certain temperature and you add that to the comp box also advancing the timing and bingo, shutter caused by over advanced timing. Again, this is just something I head through the grapevine.

Just to be clear, mine runs perfectly smooth with the Comp turned off. The fuel pressure is perfect. Everything seems just perfect. I'm going to check my pump wire first and then go from there.

Cliffman, it sounds like a perfectly reasonable answer. In the low 60's here today and no problems. I'll try putting the sub-levels more to the less aggresssive end of the timing scale.
