Well, I'm almost done, My truck runs now, (I got to drive it around the block with no bed) and I've almost got it ready to be road worthy.

I Have never owned a diesel let alone drive one,,,,,,SO

Now Here is My Dumb question

What Do I put in it for fuel? (yeah I know Diesel) The gas stations around here sell #1 and #2 fuel? also I was thinking of additives what should I use the engine has not seen the road for 2 years!

Go for #2 when at all possible. #1 is for winter use, when gelling of #2 is a porblem. As this is summer, gelling wont be a problem. Pick your poison of cleaners and run the entire bottle through the tank, then a 2-3x dose for several tanks afterword. Or jus trun it and see what happens. Be sure you have an extra fuel filter in the glove box.

In an earlier post there was some discussion regarding when to change the fuel filter. Scheduled changes can be when ever you want but do as Daniel suggest and carry a spare. You NEVER know when you will get a trashy/watery fill up and have a clogged filter. Have the tools (and knowledge) to change it by the side of the road. Joe Average station won't have either and it can be a real life $aver to have the spare along. Those stations that have one will want twice what the parts store will charge.

Congratulations. Enjoy your truck.

Thank you, I kinda figured it was #2 that I needed. I want to get some fresh fuel in this thing ( do you think it is ok to use the fuel in the sorage tank, alittle at each fill up to use it up? The Doner truck came with a 70 gallon tank/tool box in the bed

Thanks for the tip on the fuel filter I had planed on changing it, but didn't think about getting a spare.

for those of you who haven't seen my project http://www.tdr1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150284

I still have a lot I want to do, but she's about ready to see the road again Oo.

How old is the fuel in the storage tank? If it's old, I wouldn't use it. I'd use it to clean off the driveway, degrease engines or weed killer. You don't want to damage your injection pump. They are lubed by fuel only, I would only use fresh fuel with additive at each fill up.

The fuel is at least 2 years old, that's how long the truck had been sitting. Yeah, I sure don't want to ruin the pump, it was replaced not long before the truck was parked.

Drain out a bit of the old fuel into a glass jar. Let it settle for a day or so and if it looks good, (no water in the bottom and has the correct color) I'd run it. I would dose it with a bottle of additive, but again, if it looked OK, I'd have no problems using it.

On the other hand, if it smells bad and has a blackish color, them I'd find another use for it.

Good luck, RR
