darkhorse glad to hear your still kicking, get better and rebuild.

You weren't trying to miss a deer were you? I am from WI and have had several encounters with them in the past and so has the family.

No deer this time. I have tagged deer twice & one time with this truck. It didn't do much but crack the plastic moulding on my brush guard. This mishap was due to compacted snow turned to ice in the shade of the tree line. It was a down hill 90* turn to the left then over a filled section above a ravine at the bluff top. It was drizzling at the time & there was next to no traction on that wet ice. I was only doing about 25 mph as I managed to fishtail around the turn but slid to the outside of the roadway . There wasn't even 2 feet of shoulder before the hill dropped away at 60+*. I just rolled right over & fell 20 feet, top down into a big dead elm. :{ A few feet either way & that tree wouldn't have broken my fall. It's a miracle I was able to go through that wreck & not get killed & breaking C2 without neurological damage is pretty amazing too. So when I put it all in perspective I still feel like Oo.

I hate to say it but your not supposed to replace the cab.

If you do any repair to the cap the left side from the frame to the windshield has to remain intact at least enough to retain the original VIN plate. There are several federal laws against removing a VIN plate or seperating the VIN from its original chassis and using a diffrent one. I would search for a used second gen or 03-04 555 just MO.

It didn't take to long to determine that my old truck is bent beyond the point of practical repair. I'm now in the process of shopping for a used 2nd gen truck as a replacement. My wreck has a lot of good after market equipment on it that was completely undamaged.

I've located a darned good '01 5 speed a couple of hundred miles from me. It's an ETC I'm wondering how practical it would be to use my old parts to convert to a ETH DEE. Any one familiar with all the little differences?

On the engine, the differences are the head, VP44, flywheel and ECM. Maybe the wastegate on the turbo - don't know.

On the transmission, the clutch/pressure plate. Think you may have to wallow out the shifter hole in the floor. The driveshafts are different lengths but the yokes are the same. The rear mounting bracket is different, as well as the tcase shifter linkage. Click here for more details.

If you have both trucks I'd think you've got all the parts. Probably pay for the new rig by piecing out all the leftovers once you are done. ;)

Thanks for the info, nps! That was right to the point. I have my old wreck with all it's fine parts to make the swap. I'm guessing I'll keep my old ETH motor as well since it is lower milage than what I'm looking at. When all is done, I should have a truck load of good parts to recover costs with.

converting ETC 5 speed to ETH 6 speed

It looks like I have located a 2001 ETC 5 speed much like my old truck. Since I have all the undamaged running gear on my wreck Id like to use that to update the replacement. Are there any guides on engine swapping? Does the engine & transmission come out together? Doe the PCM's need to be swapped. To convert to the disc brakes, is it best to swap the whole axel housing? Iamb sure there are a few other details but these are the major issues that come to mind. Is this even a practical idea? Any input from someone who's been down this road would be appreciated. Thanks.

Richard
