I would like to see TDR show some better pictures of the concepts Dodge Power Wagon like the front, sides, rear, inside. Now I know they did a article back IN 1999 In Issue 26 but only one small picture, what a shame. I would think the truck would make a nice front cover picture plus more Information about If they ever plan making the truck. Maybe I am dreaming a bit or asking to much. That rig would look nice In my garage.

Dodge released the 2005 Power Wagon, the Hemi is the only engine option. Does not really belong on TDR cover. I drove one last week. Seems to have good off road potential. The new front suspension should work well off road. Kinda fun to drive, but I was not impressed with the Hemi I had in my 1500 QC 4x4.

They are making a Power Wagon model now. I don't think it is the same as the concept from 6 years ago though. The production Power Wagon is just a 2500 Ram truck with different badging and some cool options for off-road use. No need for pictures and such as it looks just like every other Ram inside and out.

The 1999 Concept truck I was talking about.

The concept truck they had In 99 was something worth talking about but that junk they have now Isn't. They get a good thing then screw up big time. I also had a Hemi and traded It back In. I went back to diesel. Most guys around here that got a Hemi are not very happy with fuel mileage. I got 7. I though the 99 concept truck was a winner for dodge.

I think DC does a better job than many in bringing concept cars to reality. They did the Prowler, the Viper, the Crossfire, the 300 and the Magnum were also neat concept cars as I recall.

I hardly consider the production Power Wagon junk though. They have baked in some serious features. The lockers, the lower gears, bigger tires, the disconnecting swaybar, lift, and integrated winch are all things that contribute to what should be an extremely capable truck. There in one on ebay right now and it has a picture that shows exactly why there is no Cummins PW. The winch needs to sit where our trucks are stuffed full of intercooler. The Hemi probably works a lot better with the 4. 56 gears too. Its not for everybody but as an avid off-roader I am seriously considering one :)

BHolm,

I do agree that the Hemi in that trans/gear combo and the off road type changes to the suspension make it an option for that type of truck. The Cummins is also way too heavy to be a good off road option in that size truck. When I test drove one, I really wanted to get off the road to see if would do what it felt like it would.

If you think the diesel is too heavy for off roading check out the cover on the new TDR magazine. KORE ran in the Baja 1000 and finished.

I was just felt bad that they did not come out with the Power Wagon 99 year. I thought It look like a mean truck. Maybe they though It would hurt production of the standard model? Wgo knows. Most of there concept models that went In production was a hit. I wonder what Is next?Do you know. A small truckand car that gets 50 miles per gallon might be a winner with a little stying. I don't like the bug look much. I do beleave the cummins diesel help put dodge on the map. I remember when they were not much for styling. They were just a cheap truck to buy. Of all the concept vehicles the 1999 Dodge Power Wagon caught my eye. That all.

Texasrattler,

I understand that the Cummins has all the power needed for just about any application. Just my opinion, in that size truck with that setup it would just be too much weight. It would require additional front end modifications and some off road situations would just be more difficult. I would certainly be willing to test drive one if they decide to add the options.

First, the Missus just about fell over in her seat when she read about the electronic anti-swaybar disconnect. "You mean I don't have to crawl in the mud to disconnect?!" I was soon informed that she needed one for her Cherokee and to find somebody parting out a 2005 Power Wagon.

Second, the Power Wagon is a good work truck that can get you down the logging road to the slashpile, but if you really want to off-road, I'd really suggest looking at Daimler-Chrysler's other model line... four little letters and I don't mean "NEON" :p. Happy with my 03 TJ Rubi but I smoked the warranty in about 6 weeks and dropped quite a bit of change redoing the suspension, gears, wheels/tires, roll cage, shock mounts, T-case/engine skids, crossmember, and... of course... the danged anti-swaybar!

I doubt the Cummins would be much of a liability in a truck like that. A bunch of wieght up front actually helps for steep climbs. My Unimog (from another DC line known as Mercedes :cool: ) has a big 5. 7 diesel right up front and not much in back. That thing will climb a wall that would otherwise require ropes to get a human up.

I would use the Power Wagon as a driver that I could tow some stuff with and still comfortably access the back country, and bring a fair amount of gear along. I have a couple pretty serious off-roaders already, from that other DC line again. I just plain removed the swaybar from my modified G-Wagen. Its a little sloppy on road but a real mtn goat off.

There is one on the show room of Lithia Dodge in Grants Pass Oregon. Nice looking truck. Too bad they will never see a Cummins :{

They have 3 at the dealer by my house and I almost wanted to trade the 3500 in but I could not find one with the right motor! :{ They are pretty cool though. Made the mistake and took the daughter along and now she wants one, told her all it takes is a JOB! :-laf

You have a MOG I'm so jealous. I never thought about the winch taking the intercoolers place. I'll bet one other reason is that the diesels have larger axles than the gas trucks, and there for would require a dierent differential than current power wagon. That means AAM would have to build more parts. I would think about ordering one if I could get a diesel.
