My comp is on its way and I cant wait for it

I have a stock trany

what should I look out for

and how should I drive

Ive heard leave it in 2 and when the TC locks into OD its safe to put on max.

Is this right ???

And is it safe to tap the fuel line with a stock trany ???

any suggestiions ??

I do not have gauges Im getting them for christmas

so I can KEEP AN EYE ON ME EGTs .

The owners manual says that a EGT gauge is required that dont mean the box wont work W/O the EGT gauge does it ??

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

WHAT SHOULD I EXSPECT THE FIRST DRIVE ???

DM

you will love the comp!!!!

my truck is stock except for the box, it will slip the trans on level 5 so watch out

i have no problem on level 4x5 but every truck is different

make sure you have good Fuel pressure 5psi min and watch out for boost and EGT

as the EGT will climb high on you 1400+++

stay below 1350

my boost will hit 40-42 lb cause my wast gate is straped closed.

have fun and you wont believe the difference !!!

DO YOU auto guys leave it in 5 all the time ????? it'll be here tomarrow I imagine Ill be harder on my trany the first HR the box is on than the whole next 6 mths.

I CANT WAIT

Well, first of all get ready to spend a whole bunch more money fixing your truck with that Comp plugged in cause:

1. Your transmission is stock

2. You have no guages whatsoever, EGT, Fuel pressure, Trans. temp

I advice you NOT to hook up that wire unless you have a lot of $$$$ or something. That will just be the same as an EZ with it on 1.

If you want to pierce the wire, I advise you to upgrade at least the TC & VB and also get fuel, EGT, trans. , boost guages.

I have been wanting to get a Comp for my '00 for a long time, but I want to upgrade the trans. and get guages before I do it. With a comp on a stock trans. , its just like a walking time bomb.

But, its your choice.

I've wanted to get something to boost the HP. But I know the transmission is what needs to be done first just from reading posts here. My suggestion is to NOT install the box until you at least get your gages installed, then keep the box on low settings until you do the trans. Of course if you throw the box in, put er on 5 and go for it - you could do the trans sooner . . . Hummmm sounds tempting doesn't it?

I PUT A COMP BOX ON MY TRUCK :D THIS THING IS A BEAST,IT BREAKS THIRD GEAR LOOS :-laf HAY JOMAC YOU DONT LIVE TO FAR FROM ME. I WORK AT SEARS AUTO, NESHAMINY MALL

Well Ive heard it all Ive seen stock trucks with an comp "hot box" pull a transfer sled out the gate with no drivetrain mods . Im doing no towing just driveing Im not planning on driving around in 5 all day only when the t/c locks up it was $1550 for the t/c vb and shift kit but I went with the HP first even thio the trany upgrades improve HP up to 40% @ the rear wheels . Its nice to say that your going to keep on the perfect bombing schedule but when you got the need for speed and a few bills laying around things happen

My comp box will be here in probly an hour or so Im concidering walking to the end of the drive way and waiting on the UPS man... . LOL

Yes I need gauges Im getting them

Yes its safer to updrade the trany ..... but its also safer to use military axels and not many people have them . Ill get the trany mods later .

ANYONE HAVE ANY INSTALL TIPS , TRICKS, HINTS ?????

Please let me know

I CANT WAIT

I leave it set to 5x5 all the time.

Leave it set all the time. Dont change the thing underload. havent seen what it can do but the way EEP talks its not good. It would probley be devestating to a stock auto transmission.

the edge comp box a big enhancement that is hard to say no to power level one a lot of times i tell myself that i will run it with it off for just the sake that i am in control and yet it will be on 5 and 5 and alive . i noticed this when i didnt have the gauges , exhaust . it is wise to have your truck ready . you can learn alot from a crash test dummy. dont worry it will do its job be careful you do yours. i dont know everyone else may be stronger and smarter than me. suit yourself

I just installed my Comp today and all I can say is WOW. Before I installed it I figured Id probably not tap the pump wire until later, well that idea lasted about 5 minutes after my first test drive.

Now with the wire tapped this truck has a major amount of extra power. I had it set on 5x4 and in 3rd gear going around a corner I goosed it and the truck went sideways like a sprint car with tires sreeching.

:--)

This truck is a totally different animal now :)

Dont pierce the wire till you get the guages. Once you do youll toast the transmission in a very rapid fashion if you do not upgrade it. You can get away with it for a little while without piercing the wire. Its all about self control. Best thing you can do for your transmission is to drive it hard. Keep the pedal to the metal and the transmission will last longer. I went over 40k miles with super mentals and a comp on 5x5 all the time with just a torque converter and a valve body upgrade. You really got to know how to massage the transmission just right though.

First off DM,congrats on purchasing a serious fueling box. Ive been running a drag comp since they first came out. If I were you I would NOT tap the pump wire yet. There are several reasons, the most important are your transmission and fuel pressure. You need a pyrometer, and fuel pressure guage to start before you tap the wire. Second, the transmission, needs help. If you tap the wire, and run on 5x5 I can guarantee you your truck will be down, and you will looking at several thousands to get it going. Upgrade it now while its still in good shape. If you burn it up it will cost you more, circulate garbage thru your coolers, and trans, and must make it cost more in the end. I recommend DTT,IMo they are the best, but there are others that have many satisfied customers as well. I know how i am if i tap the wire Im going to use the power, once you tap the wire you cant help but use the power. Those recommending you run on 5x5 all the time, are not doing you any favors, running on 5x5 with an auto truck is very impressive feeling, but it isnt any good for the VP44 or the trans,as the truck shifts at light throttle, the comp fuels and defuels extremely aggressive,as the load changes. When the TC locks the comp will instantly fuel hard, slipping it in short order,. Light throttle aggravates this ,making it even worse on the trans, the turbo may bark under acceleration, the trans will definetley slip(if its not modded). With the comp on 5x5 you will need like 15% throttle to accelerate as fast as the truck did stock with your foot to the floor. This will destroy your auto trans if it isnt modded, even then it isnt good for it on a daily basis. Finally if you need the comp on 5x5 every day you need bigger injectors. My advice make your hp on injectors, and use the box for playing around. Run the comp no higher than level 1 or 2 daily, for max vp44 life. Ive been doing this for over 3 yrs,and have over 110K on my truck with a drag comp and stock, original vp44. As far as fuel goes, you will need a fresh, healthy lift pump and a set of bigger banjo bolts, and open up the 2 fittings between the lift pump, and fuel filter housing. With that setup you should be seeing 16psi at idle, and drop to 6-8PSI or so at WOT on 5x5. You dont want to drop below 3psi WOT,if you are you need to add a fuel system to the bombing list. Dont forget to turnbuckle the Hy35 turbo when you add the comp box, this will reduce EGTS big time. Good luck, and BOMBS AWAY :D

DM - an afterthought . . . make sure to include Trans temp in your list to Santa. With EGT/Boost (combo), Lift Pump Fuel Psi and Trans temp mounted on the "A" pillar you should at least be able to monitor things. Until you get the transmission done the gauge will help monitor it's worst enemy - HEAT!

Thanks

WOW THANKS FOR THE INPUT GUYS

If any of you seen my thread in help you know Ive had some troubles with my truck well Im pretty sure I got it fixed to day youll have to see the thread when I update it

As for driveing style I was right when I said Id do more damage on the trany in the first few days then Ill do in the lenght of time before my suncoast TC,VB,shift kit goes in .....

Ive been running her hard and WOW is not the word I can put the truck in reverse and mash it on 5x5 and keep balling the tires and smoking my self out untill I let off :--) UNBEFREAKINLEAVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes my trany is cryin'
