Why no boost til loaded?

The mustang isn't dead - just the current model is. The new one is going to be built at a different plant. My brother has been working on it for a couple of years - oh yeah, it looks SWEEEEEEET!! Harkens back to the 60's mustangs!

Yep, Looks pretty cool and I'm not even a Phord guy. I've heard that the new Cobra will have the same hp as the new Lightning. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 500hp.

I wonder how long a 500HP engine will last if it is made with an aluminum block and is in the 4. 6L-5. 4L range? Just reading what I wrote makes me think 2 oil changes per month and a redo the heads once a year to keep it on the road.

Depends on how often all 500 BHP is used. There's nothing inherently wrong with an aluminum block - it really depends on the cylinder wall or liner, piston and ring technology they're using. Check out the Viper or the Ram SRT-10. The new C6 Z01 Corvette is supposed to be making around 500 BHP from the LS1-design aluminum block when it's released in the next year or so.

I think it's the combination of the aluminum block and it being a really tiny engine, i. e. the 289 or 302 that makes me suspicious. I also have bad memories of the older aluminum block engines. And if I had 500HP at my disposal it would be used as much as possible!:D Why have it unless you have fun with it (the same is true for women, but don't let them hear you saying that... )?

But it's not the 289/302 block (I'm very familiar with those). It's the 32valve DOHC engine with a Roots-style Eaton blower. Different design and engine family entirely. They're probably using the R&D off the engine in the new Ford GT (the GT-40 replica).

If it's made anything like the 4. 6L 32-valve 260HP Intech V8 that's in my '98 Lincoln Continental, it should last a long time! I just turned 100k miles, and the engine still runs like new, doesn't burn any oil, and consistantly gives me 25mpg (and I drive it hard). Other than normal maintenance like new plugs at 100k and oil changes every 4k, I haven't touched the engine.

Whoever thinks Lincolns are slow should drive mine!

I rode in a new Mustang about 3 weeks ago. The owner complained because it was too slow off the line. He wants 4. 10 gears in it.

And here I thought it was begeezus fast!!!

Man Steve that is one sweet looking Mustang. That is gonna turn out to be the best thing Ford did in quite awhile. Bring back the real muscle cars of the 60's.

I'll be on boad when I start seeing big honking Chargers and Challengers back on the road--gas or diesel! In fact, this diesel bug has got me so that I'm seriously considering the idea of putting a 5. 9ISB in an old Imperial or Lincoln as an experiment, but common sense tells me to wait until this truck is paid off first.
