As the title suggests, how rare are one of these beauties? I actually mean, has anyone ever seen a release from Chrysler as to the number actually produced? I know that there are lots of '98 CC 12V, and '98 QC 24V, but the rare "middle year" models seem to be rare as a Honus Wagner baseball card.

Any input?

I think the club cab is rarer, I belive.

I have a quad cab, short bed, 12V, 5-speed. The "most desireable" to some.

They arent ridiculously rare, but they are still way more rare than the majority.

This question has been asked before, about the productions numbers, and nobody seems to know.

Other than the fact that the 98 motor has some oddities (53 block, some different fasteners, etc) I feel its by far the nicest of the 12V's. I love the 98-newer interior, and the quad cab is extremely handy to me.

I sometimes contemplate selling mine to buy a 3rd gen, but when I get in it and go, I just dont think I could do it!!

98 12v Quad cab SW

I can't help you on how many were made. But I can comment on my 98. Since the 98 I have bought and sold an 01 an 02, still have the 03. Some how I can't seem to part with the 98. Thanks to TDR, over the years the 98 weak spots have been upgraded, trackbar-DTT, tranfer case snap ring, trans 5th gear, caliper pins, Engine timing, starter contacts, better fuel and oil filters. Other expenses were 2-axle seals, front brakes, clutch-weak factory pilot bearing and pressure plate, rear u-joint. A little more power than stock was adjusted and enjoyed. The truck gets much better towing fuel milage than my other trucks. On towing trips the cheaper fuel bills leave more beer money in your pocket. The day is coming were I will have to decide which truck has to go, what a day that will be! The truck only has 110,000 miles on it and is in semi retirement for now. (spare)

i think (note, i'm don't know for sure), the CC trucks are a bit more rare than the QC. And, they are an oddity, kind of. My '98 CC has the QC seats in it, but it's not a QC. In my area, I never see anything like my truck.

i stumbled upon mine, and bought it right away. i plan on keeping it for next to forever and would maybe even like to take it off the road and use something else for a daily driver..... wait, that's no fun. . :-laf

I think, if you find a decent '98 CC or QC, and have the cash, it's worth buying.

Holy Grail? :-laf Now thats funny. The 98's are nothing special. Personally I like the seats, interior and the longer gear lever of the 94-97's.

When I bought mine, I didn't realize how "rare" they were. It's my first Cummins, and probably not my last. I really do like the interior compared to my friend's 97. :)

yeah, the clubs are definately more rare...

I'm on my 2nd 12v quad... they're definately harder to find, but it's mainly because people don't want to let go of them, not because they didn't make so many :)

I don't know if this is allowed, but there is a "holy grail" in the Mountain Trader for $11,000. One pops up here about once a month although this price is exceptional.

My '97 suits me just fine!

I have had mine for over a year. Wasn't too too hard to find. I still look for them just for kicks. I really like mine. I see most of them on ebay actually. Its not uncommon to see a good one every month or so. Most of them seem to be automatics, but to some that is a bonus i guess. I'll keep mine forever, but 1st gens are still my favs.

Well I just got a 98 QC SB 4x4 with 130k miles on it. It is a SLT Laramie and is in pretty darn good shape except for the transmission. I think I saw where the truck was built in 11/97. I had an 05 but didn’t like the glitches or the payments and my favorite is still the 1st gens, but this will be the last truck I buy for a long long time.

Didnt know they were that rare. Mines x-cab wish it was QC but there is a guy at work who has one 98 12v QC 5spd. and they are not all "53" blocks depends what part of the year I guess. Mines Sept. 97

I got a 98 12v 5sp QB SB, and my brother has a 98 12v 5sp QC LB. They cant be too hard to find, but most people dont want to sell them though.

Ive owned dozens of Dodge diesels and I think my favorite one of all was a 1997 2500 CC longbox 4x4 with 232,000 on the clock and an auto. I really prefer the older dash from pre 98 over the 99-02 models.

I own one, and I've heard it described as desirable, and as "the junk that Dodge had left over" before tooling up for the ISB trucks. Sounds like the folks describing it as "left-overs" might be a bit envious or bitter.....

My 12 valve QC has proven to be bullet-proof and nearly trouble free. Great fuel mileage. Great power at this level of tune. Looks great. I bought it used (I am the second owner). I've spoken with the original owner, and he wanted it back - seems he traded the Dodge for a 6. 0L Ford.

Ouch!

Anyway, I found his (my) Dodge using a car buying site on the Internet, less than five miles from my house.

I would also like to know production figures. There is a website out there for some guy who is the supposed "guru" of Chrysler production figures (can't remember his name right now). I've e-mailed him and asked for a price to determine these numbers, but I got no reply. I guess he's too busy figuring out how many Hemi Cudas were built (for the zillionth time).

Look at it this way... . no matter what year model we drive, we are still driving the best diesel powered pickup truck.

I've seen production numbers here or on DTR I think...

as for the comment on the 97, if I didn't need a short bed, I'd be driving a 97, I really like the earlier dash too. I have gotten spoiled w/ the quad doors though :p
