Was there ever a 24V club cab? hmmmmm...

Thanks for all the replys! Now that I think about it, I guess it is the fact that no one wants to part with them that makes them so rare in used car lots.

This seems to be even more of a major changover than the 04-04. 5 & 07-07. 5, since there were 2 major changes, as in the change from 12 to 24, and 2 to 4 doors. All that seems to make me think there was even less of a time period to "filter" out all the possibilities, and end up with a QC 12V, due to all the configurations.

That gets me thinkin, was there ever a 24V club cab???? Or would that be like a 2003 V10??

There are approx 7 extended cab 98's on ebay... see here. . :

Why would you want a club cab? Correct me if i`m wrong, but isnt the club cab the model without the rear doors? Mebe i`m wrong, I dunno. . You probably would have to get a really early 98, like a 8 or 9/97 build to see one of those. .

I travelled 650mi to go get mine (not thru ebay, but thru the net), and I couldnt be happier. . My 96 is bulletproof

good luck

Club cab is stronger setup. I beleive in 97 they changed the frame with a strengthening it and did a coating to the frame. Look at a 96 or so and compare the frames to a 97. I have seen some 95's and the frames aren't about to fall apart or anything, but much more surface rust on it.

I have actually seen both a 24v club cab and a 2003 v10

out of all of those trucks, I see ONE 12v diesel and it's a quad cab... the rest are gassers or 24v

Mine sat for sale on a lot in north Denver for more than a month when I found it in '00. Nobody wanted a short bed back then for some reason. I have a work truck and only put 10-20k a year on the '98 so it doesn't make sense to get something else with payments. I should get another 10 years out of this one.

No major problems other than it has always leaked oil slowly from somewhere. As soon as I tear it apart and fix it, not too long afterwards, it will start again some place else.

well, they were very short lived obviously, and the short beds were VERY popular in the 24v trucks, and the weaknesses of the "new" 24v engines weren't fully realized... plus, I'm sure a lot of 12v owners would have loved to get out of their long beds and into a shortbed, but they probably had fairly new trucks that they were still paying on. Now that the dust has settled, the QC/SB is considered the "holy grail" by more people than consider the longbed or dualy thusly... there are those who wouldn't have anything other than a longbed or nothing but a dualy. And the quad cab definately makes the 98 12v a bonus over previous years, but if you could live with a club cab (which many have/can/do) an earlier model will suffice just fine and cost you less. but if you want a short bed, a 98 is IT! and obviously the quad is more desirable than the club to most.

My last truck was a 98 1500 Club cab 4x4 360 gasser. I loved the body style, setup, interior, transmission and 4x4, but the motor was a gutless wonder. Couldn't get out of its own way. Imagine that, I go and get a bigger truck, with a much more powerful motor, and average almost 7 MPG more overall with it.

Club cab setup is good for someone who just uses it for storage, and the occasional passengers.

You know, it's nice to see a lot of support and apprecitation for the 12valve trucks from 97 and 98. It seems like there are still a lot of people out there that appreciate the potential and simplicity of the system.

What galls me is that on many of the web sites out there, you're a nobody unless you have a 3rd gen with 2 CP3's a big turbo and injectors, a Smarty or equivalent, and putting 700+ hp on the ground. It seems you don't even qualify for acknowledgement of existence unless you can drop $35,000 or more on a new truck then drop another $5K-plus for performance mods. Yet just a few years ago Dr. Donnelly was hitting 600 hp for the first time on #2 on Sickly and everyone thought he was "God"! My how fickle we are!. But there are still 12-valve trucks out there doing every bit of that or more. Just as Maddog.

Never mind. Just spouting off.

I don't reall get that kind of vibe... I get lots of thumbs-up from 6. 0 strokes and 3rd gens when I drag 'em on the highway :) and I get a few grins from the D-max guys too.

A lot of 3rd gen guys are johnny come latelys now that diesel performance has blown up so much, but there are a lot of them who definately appreciate the old 12v engines, they just want/need a newer truck. and there are those who just gotta have the latest toys.

I'm actually glad more people don't recognize the greatness of the 2nd gen 12v, the prices on them are already high enough! :)

I actually test drove either a 99 or 2000 club cab 24V dodge. It was a stripped model, manual windows, rubber floor, etc.

I also agree, I dont want or need a long bed. Towing 5th wheels, hauling the camper, etc, Ive never had a problem with the short bed. And the lance I have is 11'. ;)

About the only thing Ive considered replacing it with is an 05, solar yellow, 3500 sb single wheel. Thats about it.

Recently a buddy of mine traded in his 98 12V. Identical to mine. 98, 5-speed, sb, red, sport, tan interior, etc. 115k miles. The local dealer gave him 18. 5K$ on trade in on a used 2003. He regrets it now!! So, I guess unless I can get enough for mine to pretty much pay for a 3rd gen (unlikely), I will just keep it.

Besides, I recently "acquired" a non-53 block for it to build up, actually an ex 800hp block, sickly's old block. :)

I bought my 98 2500 12V QC 5 speed Sport with 87K miles in Oct and I feel I got a screaming deal on it. They guy selling it said that 3 other people had come out and looked at it but none ever called him back, it had been for sale for over a month.

Now that I bought it I've had a number of people comment about how rare it is and how hard they are to find because people just don't sell them. I drove it home with the for sale paint still on the windsheild and had 2 different guys stop me at lights asking how much I wanted for it. :D

My father has a 1998, 12v, Quad Cab, Long Bed, SLT, 4x4, automaic with low miles (just over 100k) that is in near perfect condition that he is interested in selling.

PM me for pictures and details if you are interested.

My father has a '98 12V QC 4X4 5 speed LB in cherry condition with (this is sad) just under 35K last I looked a few months ago. If they only had a 6 speed, that would without a doubt be the cream of the crop. Best interior, best engine, & MPG that I REALLY miss (I traded a '97 on this electronic crap).

I offered to fix that for ya ;)

I've got a front driveshaft, a bellhousing, and I've got the transmission out of my old 97 that just needs synchros and bearings... I'm probably going to have it built up w/ a full splined shaft, iron housing, and billet input and put it in. make offer on 6sp ;)
