Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) The "ice box" or the "cool air" solution

I want to upgrade the air filter system. Right now I have a BHAF and need a new filter so seems like nows the time. I'm stock except for a Van Aaken but I do carry a cab-over camper full time. Wondering if I really need anything except the stock air box and then maybe an Amsoil ea nanofiber filter. The I could ad the "cool tube" if needed. Not really looking for horsepower just a cooler running engine.

You can go with the EAau4510 only since you have a BHAF now. I did that with mine and cut the end of the 4510 that goes to the intake tube and turned it around and stuck it in the end of the 4510. Then clamped the whole thing back to the 4" pipe I cut to go in the intake tube. I have some pictures on here but I don't know how to g et them onto this thread. -Jason

I ran an open 'shield type' for awhile - I think these aftermarket filter intake systems are just hype. When going to a different turbo I reverted back to the stock box with a PG7 flat filter. I would have gone to the OEM paper but they are expensive to properly maintain - as the PG7 is cleanable.



I first ordered the 'new' improved cone type PG7 filter that fits in the stock box and by my calculations it had less sq in of filter. As well as being curved to squeeze what was there kinda closed. I sent it back and the flat one is thick and heavy with a nice gasket profile molded into it.



I also installed the cold intake hose you speak of - went in easy enough - but you will hear more turbo. It doesn't bother me but it might some. l think this set up works best for me - all the air is fresh and not heated by the engine.
