Gas verse Diesel exhaust temps?

good story

quick duramax story for you guys... ... .

i was heading up to St. Johnsbury,Vermont last weekend and a brand new 3500 dually D-max pulled up next to me cruising at about 65 mph. i turned my PMX up to three and started to play! he put the hammer down and we were off. to make a short story short,i pulled away from him like he was dragging an anchor. i kinda felt sorry for the guy because he had a buddy with him egging him on to race. the worst thing is, i was hauling three snomobile's on a trailer:D

better luck next time chevy... ... . james

Ramhead, that wasn't a fair competition at all. You should've had at least 6 snowmobiles in tow to make it more even! :D LOL Great job man

Why did you turn the PMX up three? Head to head stock to stock is a race. What might the outcome have been? Come on guys, what's competitive to compare racing with the Powerstroke and the Duramax when you run bombed verses stock. I would like to see two stock trucks tied to 10,000 lb trailers, drop the hammer and pull up a steep grade and see who gets to the top first. Now that's equal and fair competition. However, since the horsepower ratings are different maybe one (lesser horsepower)should start first as is done in drag racing. I make this statement because I saw the same type of lopsided brand bashing on the Ford site.

maxipads

soooooo... ... ... let me get this straight--it would have been a fairer test if james had left his BOMBs off and taken the empty maxi on while pulling a trailer with 3 snowmobiles? there prolly isn't a way for the match to be done "fair" under the circumstances. i wouldn't want to be thought of as a poor sport, but IF i had a chance to outrun a maxi, i'd prolly use facilities at my disposal. won't happen--i'm still stock, and will most likely stay that way:( .

How much is enough to compensate for the trailer and snowmobiles? 2? 3?

Had he raced at the stock setting and won, I would be impressed. If he had lost, we could chaulk it up to the trailer. No way to tell now.

The most powerful pick-up alive...

Do you guys remember all the G. M. hype and propaganda. 30 foot tall monstrous trucks that nothing else could touch pulling gigantic backhoes  . Doug

That add alone almost made me go straight to the dealer and trade off my guttless POS Dodge for a new Duramax.

Hey,How about the 10% better fuel mileage. Maybe over the p. s. d. I've been over to the G. M. Diesel site and they all say 16-18 empty and 8-10 loaded:rolleyes: ,and they have a lighter truck to begin with. I get 18-20@80 m. p. h. on the freeway,16 around town and never below 12 loaded. I don't think it's(dura?) a worthless p. o. s. ,but it sure ain't livin' up to all the B. S. hype. I also want to see one when it has 4-500,000 on it,like so many C. T. D. s have. Then we'll see if it lives up to it's durability claims. Doug

scotty's

jeff...

i am heading up to vermont now for the weekend so i can't make it!! have a beer for me:) i'll see ya all at the next meet.

... ... ... p. s... ask scott to send me some stickers please... james

Having two 3500 trucks sitting in the driveway,, a D-Max and a Cummins. I can tell you right now that both of them hooked to a 25' Tandem axle dually(8 tires) Gooseneck trailer that stock to stock the D-max will win.

Observations of pulling with D-Max/Allison VS. Cummins 5-speed 3. 55 rear-end

The D-Max will pull hard all the way to 3,300 RPM (Redline)and still pulling,, the show is over at 3,200RPM on the Cummins.

When going up a hill if the RPM is kept above 2,700RPM the D-max can march right up anything. If the Cummins is kept above 2,500 RPM it's gonna maintain speed almost no matter what size hill. DIFFERENCE? The D-max can speed up big hills if you maintain WOT, Cummins maintains speed at WOT (4th gear on both trucks).

Our Cummins got 17MPG towing the same trailer the D-maz/Allison now pulls, but the D-MAx gets a solid 7MPG on hard runs, and 9-10MPG taking it very easy, and taking it easy means going to slow to make money when getting paid per mile.

My Dad Drives slower, than what my Grandpa thinks is slow (THAT'S SLOW) and he has gotten a peak of 14MPG in town. I get 12MPG in town.

My BOMBed Cummins (~375RWHP) gets 14MPG when I drive it "Like I want to" AKA "Like you stole it", "Your Gonna break it", "How do you keep tires on that thing?" and "Got any speeding tickets lately?" The D-max can barely keep up with my Friends 2001 Suburban, and my Cummins can outrun it at 3/4 throttle.

I haven't tried towing yet with my BOMBed truck, but I know for sure that the $1,000 in Performance parts and ~$800 clutch, It will tow anything faster than a D-Max could dream of, AND get better MPG.

I tried to sum up the difference's between the D-max and the Cummins, if anybody has anymore questions I'll try to answer them if I have experiance with the question asked. I won't be answering questions I don't know other than "I don't know" or "I feel such and such way"

P. S. One place where all the Chevy's have Dodge at, is their Brakes,, they are far superior to my Dodge's Drum/Disc setup. It's funny,, I can slide to a stop (all 6 wheels locked) and my Dad's truck can still stop faster without locking tires.

:-{} Everytime we have a thread like this, someone has to bring up "It's not fair because it's not stock to stock" Look, it's not meant to be fair, it's meant to be fun. Run what ya brung no excuses. If I rolled up on the D-max that is in the thread in gen diesel that dynoed over 300 hp he'd spank me and he could be over on the chevy site har haring it up. So what? It's all good. I'll laugh it off and won't be all :{ about it.
