Gas verse Diesel exhaust temps?

good story

Why would anyone towing a trailer like that use a truck that gets 10mpg less than another, no matter what brand? It sounds like you are hauling for money, being paid by the mile, That is huge $ difference in cost per mile that could never be made up to cover owning it.

I have also read many posts on this site but never read about someone getting 17mpg towing.

My Dodge has NEVER got less than 9MPG (even doing 110MPH) or towing 36,000 pounds. I EASILY get 14MPG (racing anything that moves) and 16 MPG if I give a half-hearted attempt at MPG I get 20MPG doing 60MPH on the highway.

Some Dodges get good MPG, some don't. Mine is the rare one that gets good MPG.

My gas mileage is pretty good. Usually about 17mpg around town(and I am not too easy on the throttle) and about 18 @ 80mph on the highway. I haven't hauled over 7000 pounds... . yet. But I never, never get below 15. I have got a 3. 54 differencial.

I can get just about any mileage # you want, it just depends on what I do. You name it, from 9 to 24 mpg. I am pi$$ed off at the average mileage going to work and back though. But getting 24 on the highway is way  .

I got a '95 bombed and I generally get 17+ around town with my foot in it. 3. 54, auto. Out on the highway I get 20+ I HAVE gotten a c-hair over 22 mpg on the downhill side of Flagstaff goin' 70 with the AC on.

I'm with Gene on this one (did I say that?).

It's not personal, and it shouldn't be. But if you think you've got the bad machine, be prepared to get your bad machine spanked. Because there's always some badder and faster.

jdecampo, I pulled about 1500 pounds from Savannah to Macon last Friday. Got 17. 5 mpg. Now you've heard of it. Pulling 10K I get on down to 14. That "billboard" I pulled Friday surprised me. It wasn't the weight, it was the sail area that dropped my mileage from 21. 5 to 17. 5.

Milage

My truck is stock, (just factory settings) and pulling a 20' gooseneck stock trailer I get 17. :D This milage is the lowest I get, but some day , when the wifey isn't looking I will BOMB it !! That is when I will lie about the fuel milage, if it goes down, if it goes up I will tell her nothing !!:D I like the Chevys but there is no way I would pay that price for one, especially on a untried motor. I am going to get an Excursion though, wife likes DIESEL fumes !!!;) :D
