Due to the passing of my favorite aunt in late August, I had to saddle up and head back to the eastern townships in Quebec in a hurry to make the funeral. I left Friday at 9:00 PM and arrived Sunday @ 9:30PM, a little over 2,000 miles. I will have to check the fuel consumption... if I haven't lost any receipts. Ride down was great, and I made a concerted effort to leave the heavy foot in the box! With my Smarty on 1, I think I got over 700 miles on 1 tank and could have done a little better but... I really couldn't keep from winding her up a little.
After a week of family related matters, I headed back, with a Uhaul trailer tacked on for good measure. Seems like having a truck and heading west is an open invitation for moving furniture west!
Fuel economy wasn't as good, obviously, but still 18 - 19 MPG - Playing Nice. Worst was driving straight into a 60 - 70 MPH wind from Kenora to Regina. I gave up and kept her @70, the difference in fuel consumption was negligible... Although I think I know what driving a Ford is like - seeing 8mpg on the overhead. (Had it up to 95 MPG at one point... Going down a big *** hill near Montreal River!!:-laf) All in all 6,207 mile in about 6 days of driving time... While the seats are nice, after 40 hours my butt had had it!
I had no real issues, didn't hit any deer or moose, and only ran into 1 idiot in an H2 that decided riding 6 inches off my bumper and then passing on a blind hill was cool. Funny thing was, 1/2 mile later I was on his bumper, stopped for construction, and he had a cell number on his vehicle. . I called him and chewed him out... took him a while to figure out where I was!!! He turned somewhat red and took off as soon as we were clear!
Other that my issue with the door latch, she ran great and driving around Lake Superior you really appreciate the HP to get past the big rigs quickly on the limited passing lanes.
Still a committed Cummins guy!
