As nice and shiny as the new ones are they just don't have that old honest truck look and they feel a little more fragile in my opinion. When i drive my 3rd gen then hop into the 1st gen it feels like an angry tractor that is barely under control, it's a good feeling until you hit a bump. 4 doors are nice but the 1st fits me better overall. nice trucks you have... ... ... Jim

Jim,

There are only 2 reasons why I went to a new truck. I wanted an auto so the "Boss" can drive it in an emergency and I wanted a larger cab.

It is kind of scary looking under the hood of the 2006 as compared to the simplicity of the 1992. But I ain't getting any younger and if the 2006 will stand up as well as the 1992, it probably will be my last truck. One of the first things that I noticed with the new truck is that it sure doesn't start as instantaneously as the 92.

The quick start is my favorite thing about the old ones and my girl doesn't get the whole old rough riding truck thing. So now the question is are you keeping the 1st gen? Somebody had to ask.

No I will not be keeping it. I am hoping that my son will take it, - it only has 133000 km on the odometer, original paint, runs well, good mileage and everything works. I sure would like to keep it in the family.

We're family too!

:D

both trucks look great, I am sure someone will give it the love it needs (if your son doesn't)

Mine had 130K on it too when I bought her. My 12 YO son has already laid claim to her. I've put about 4K on her so far and the only stuff I've had to do other than a complete service was to replace the rear seal and replace a fuse for the cruise control. Oh, yeah I also disconnected the rear ABS that was fubar.

I just love driving her. My first Dodge was a first gen way back in '91. Something I can't put my finger on. Sure, my '05 and '99 whoop on her in a race. Maybe it's that old dependable feeling. I just know when I go out to go somewhere she's going to fire right up and keep going 'till the fuel runs out.

Jimnance,

I must admit I have mixed emotions. As you say "Maybe it's that old dependable feeling. " This truck never let me down. Always started on the first try, even at minus 29 Fahrenheit after sitting for 3 days in the bush, while the GM's and Ford's needed help. The other thing about the first gens there is not much chance of falling asleep while driving - either the motor or the suspension will keep you awake. ;)
