And where else in an American car do you get titanium rods and I believe titanium valves also? Not to mention a dry sump oiling system!

GM is showing the world what good old American vehicles can be.

:):):)

We bought one of the first Z0-6s available in 2001 (385 HP) and took delivery in Ohio.

We traveled through US and Canada then back to Ca. , just over 6000 Mi. in about 1 month.

It's a great car in all categories, especially in handling, HP, torque and braking, add to that we averaged over 24 MPG on that trip and it's extraordinary.

Considering my car has the 385 HP eng. verses the 505HP it's hard for me to imagine what that kind of acceleration would be like.

Maybe one of these days I'll drop in the 505. (Dreaming?)

I'm more than happy modding my diesel these days, but I also know I've been a gear-head all my life.

Thanks for the Corvette thread.

I have been wanting one for a few years now and I finally got my wife to test drive a new Vette (not the Z06 ) and they are sweet, one of my favorite options was the paddle shifters on the steering wheel for the 6 speed auto along with the heads up display, makes you feel like your in a indy car

hemi- The only reason for me to have that car is it looks good sitting there, bragging rights and its worth a boat load of money. My dad had a 70 R/T 440 he sold it a few years ago. For me I would get 1994 Porsche 3. 6 turbo before a c6 zo6.

I had the chance to test drive a Cadillac CTS-V.

Same engine/trans as the vette.

That thing was a freak. I was real close to buying it, even though it was a bit more than I wanted to spend.

I couldnt even imagine it in a vette.

I want to get a z06 in about 4 years when the cost comes down and the boys move out. All the vette guys always seem to take good care of the cars. I saw a transporter with just new vettes in oct, had one z06 in bright yellow.

The CTS's aren't that fast. I held doors with a 400hp one a while back. They are heavy cars.

This one seemed pretty fast. Vette engine 6 speed.

Maybe it was just being closer to the ground gave that impression.

My truck is just about stock, and I havent owned a "fast" car since my Grand National. 20 years ago... .

And now I have read that they are adding a superchager to make a SS version!!!!

Edit... sorry forgot that it is now the ZR1 not SS anymore...

I thought it was going to be a twin turbo for the SS?

I knew some folks working in the GM engine test area a few years back and they were maintaining dyno cells and runs for the twin turbo 427 motor for a "Super car" version of the vette. As if it needs any more to compete with the super cars in the current state.

Be nice to see an American product claim the top speed record

What a TORQUE Monster for being a non diesel... .

From the GM press release...

"More than just its tremendous peak horsepower and torque numbers, the supercharged LS9 makes big power at lower rpm and carries it in a wide arc to 6,600 rpm. GM Powertrain testing shows the engine makes approximately 300 horsepower (224 kW) at 3,000 rpm and nearly 320 lb. -ft. of torque (434 Nm) at only 1,000 rpm. Torque tops 585 lb. -ft. (793 Nm) at about the 4,000-rpm mark, while horsepower peaks at 6,500 rpm. The engine produces 90 percent of peak torque from 2,600 rpm to 6,000 rpm. " :D

My buddy was showing me a chart comparing it to a Viper 8. 4L HP and Torque curves. It puts the Viper to shame... .
