Diesel

Last year, Audi demonstrated the dynamic potential of diesel power in most memorable fashion on race tracks around the world. The V12 TDI in the R10 sports prototype unleashed in excess of 650 bhp and left its petrol-engined competitors in its wake in each of the eight races it competed in. Highlights of this winning streak included its triumph at the gruelling Le Mans 24 Hours as well as its victories in the LMP1 category of the American Le Mans Series.

The Audi Q7 V12 TDI raises the bar in the burgeoning sports utility vehicle segment. A time of just 5. 5 seconds for the dash from zero to 100 km/h and an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h give the high-performance SUV sports car calibre. Its six-litre twelve-cylinder diesel unit demonstrates the tremendous technological expertise at Audi's fingertips. 18 years after the Ingolstadt brand invented the modern-day TDI engine, it is presenting it in an all-new high-tech, range-topping guise.

Anybody wanna loan me 75K?:D

It is a cheby, and a gasser! One more thing, on snow it would be first in the ditch... :-laf

It is a Chevy, meaning it's an American brand. And who with more than two neurons twitching together in their cranium would drive a 500+ hp rear drive car in the snow? Oh, and it's faster than the R8 diesel.

One of the best performing and handling - as well as the most economical vehicles - was my '85 vette. Wish I still had it, but WILL eventuall have a 50th anniversary model, if I can get one our lots sold here in town... ;):D

Humm

I can see some don't know Colorado, you can get caught in a snow storm in July. The new Vette is the same as the old vette, when I say the same, I mean it is not a head turner, just another Vette. I would take the R-8 over it any day, of course if the truth be know I would take a big block Cobra before both of them. :D

Well Jeeze - stating that a Corvette - or ANY similar vehicle isn't the best choice in ALL geographical locations is sort of a no-brainer!

Sorta like the snowmobile used in Alaska probably won't work well in Arizona... :-laf:-laf

Still

I think the Vette would be hard pressed to catch the R-8, it would be fun to watch. I think 738# of torque and 186+ mph would do the Vette under trying to keep up. As far as geographical conditions, roadworthy is roadworthy, does not matter where you are. We are not talking snowmobiles and cars here, we are talking cars, if the darn thing can't perform in the weather, its limited. Just as the Cobra is just a racecar, and a summer afternoon cruiser. Does not take a brain to realize this... ;)

Ummm, Price per HP, the Vette is still much better. You are obviously not aware of the new ZR1 600hp vette. :) few more ponys then the R8

And yes, my head will turn when I see one of them! :) I'll try to race and fail, but be happy that I attempted :)

Is the Z06 worth the extra $20k over the 430hp coupe with the Z51 option?

I've never owned a vette but for some reason I seem to be drawn to the new ones, (the C6's that is). I realize the Z06 is the 427cu inch motor with 505hp but the new LS3 6. 2L 430hp base motor is no slouch, (only 75 less hp). I think the $20k premium they tack on the Z06 is a bit much.

Kerbeck Corvette has a new 2008 coupe listed for under $40K. See link:

Heck just add one of several superchargers available and have more rear wheel hp than the Z06. Don't get me wrong the widebody Z looks killer and I would love to own one but the with the affordability of the base coupe with the Z51 performance package and a blower I believe I could be happy. Just my 2 cents.
