OK, OK. Now for the million dollar question. Does anyone know when the new style 2500/3500 Rams will be out and what diesel engine is going to be offered?

I've heard several rumors on this subject. Magazines say the 1500 will be out this fall and the 2500/3500s will follow a year later. They also state that there are big changes for the diesel. Dealer says they expect the 2500/3500s to come out sometime around Jan '02. Dealer also said that the new diesel will be much quieter and will be much more powerful but the power will only last for 1 year before emissions standards make the power go back to something like what it is now - but there again, what does a dealer know? I've also heard the rumor that the current 24v will be offered in the new ones for the first year before they change the engine. What's going on?

My sled is a 98. 5 24v with 95k miles. I've been waiting unpatiently for a real 4-door but don't want to wait another year. I have this undying urge to BOMB the !#*@ out of my rig but don't want to invest a lot in it if they are going to change everything - no way I'm going to trade her in with all the goodies! If the new rig is going to have the 24v I could just transfer the mods over to it! Does anyone know the answer to all this?

I understand your furstration. As you can see by my signature, ( or lack of it ), I'm also "unpatiently" waiting to see what the 2003 Ram has to offer!

So, you want a Crew Cab? A guy up in Iowa or WI or somewhere will stretch your truck and add a couple of full-sized doors, a new seat, etc for around $10-$12 grand. Is it worth it? Well, do you like your truck? Have you bombed it?
Do you want to wait and potentially wind up with a Kraut-Powered Ram that might not look as cool as the one you have now?
Are you going to pay the 10-12 g's for a new one anyway? (that answer is YES! if you do actually get a new one)
Just a thought... . #ad

Soler,

Your point is well taken. I for one will definitely buy a 2002 with the Cummins if I find that the 2003 will have an MB in it's place!

Hi Country

I'm hoping to have the same luck that you seem to be having with your truck. When I finally get mine, it will be my first and probably last diesel! That's why I joined this group so far ahead of time. To be as educated as possible before I make a purchase.

rmrc,
I am amazed to hear some of the stories these guys have. If I read this before buying my RAM I would have bought a Ford! My truck is very well built. I have only had the front brake problem. My service department is awesome in every way, good thing I still have dreams about shooting the salesman. The truck seems very well built except for the brakes and fuel lines. I think you will be happy as long as you do not buy an auto! IT WILL NOT LAST!! I have never owned one because I have seen so many have problems on new vehicles. Good luck with your choice, I hope you are as happy as I have been.
