I have a 05' 4x4 automatic, afe intake, 5" rbp exhuast (turbo back), and the banks kit. I am a new member and want some input on a turbo upgrade! I do very little towing, more for performance and off the line. I am looking for a faster spool up and more of the turbo sound (like the var. on the fords) with out having to upgrade the trans. , thanks brian.

:)

Welcome to TDR!

The turbo of the month (well, several months now) seems to be the Phat Shaft series from Industrial Injection. If you do towing, the PS 62 will suit your needs. Quick spooling and lots of top end cooling.

If you ditch your Banks electronics and get a box that makes real power (like a TST or Hot Juice) then you'd be better off with a Super Phat Shaft 66 as long as you don't tow heavy.

Fill out your signature with your truck specs. It will be easier for someone to help you.

On edit:

Now that I think about it, the Phat Shaft turbos have gotten more attention here than any other turbo since I have joined this site. Nobody, I mean nobody, has ever said anything negative about Industrial Injection. One member had a surging problem with a 66 and II took care of him no problem.

ditch the banks!... ats converter and valve body, tst twins, pressure box on low setting with sps66 and pusher pump. 550hp

with the banks system it does not warrant another turbo.

build it right the 1st time so you dont waste money... . banks is always a step in the wrong direction.

I am ditching the banks for the edge tommorow! Any input on a turbo upgrade (I am not towing but dont want to ruin the trans. ) thinking about the sps 62 12cm?

Just wanted to say that the Super Phat Shaft 62/14 spools VERY fast and still gives you very low drive pressure. You will be happy with this turbo. But you may have a different need that I am not aware of. We do have other turbos to pick from. Thanks

I would go with 14cm not 12 so you've got room for more improvement... For now if you want more turbo sound, get a nice intake with Tube and trash the turbo silencer ring and she'll sing...

You can stack the Banks, the SPS62 cannot spool as fast as stocker But the Drive ratios are far superior and more than make up for it,Also the PDA is here with the new technology witch will allow the use to adjust fuel, and 100s of other options,I have dyno at 602Hp without the fueling option,This PDA is light years ahead of any after market Tuner,Most of our Customer and (Competition) cannot believe you can have so much HP and be so operator Friendly. The new PDA comes with Active safety controls, along with being your own personal assistance.

I have the same truck and I am very happy with the Super Phat Shaft 62 from Industrial Injection. It spools just as fast if not faster than stock and reduces EGT's while providing more air volume and boost. Very pleased - No surge issues at all. 50 to 55 sustained boost when I go WOT. It can be adjusted for more or less boost.

b,

if you dont want to hurt the trans STOP where you are. i would say the banks kit is about at much as your transmission can take! if you want long life out of your transmission take the box off and change fuild regularly (25K).

I also have the PS62-14 on my 2005 4x4 dually. I run a 130 hp power pup with it, and last night it ran a 14. 36 quarter mile. I weighed the truck just before going to the track, and it was 8040 pounds with me in it. I'm very pleased with it. If you do atleast a shift kit, you'll be much happier. If not, say goodbye to the transmission. . Good luck. . You can pick up the same shift kit I went with for 70 bucks. It makes a huge difference.

Yes, but you need a little more than fuel than stock to really appreciate it.

He is right and when you add enough fuel to appreciate the bigger turbo your transmission is gonna be mad at you. There is no long term way around transmission work if you want to add neck snappin' power. Everyone wants to make the trans the last step, and IMO it should be closer to the front of the list.

If I had to do it again (and I'm sure I will :D) I'd be driving an auto truck. The first mod for me would be two at the same time: A box and a fully built trans. Then all the other stuff would come together as time allows.

power

I agree, power to the ground first, then fuel, turbo, injectors, ect. if your gona do it. do it right, the first time! it will save you alot of trouble. good luck :-laf

Took out the banks and installed the edge today and already have noticed almost 2 miles a gallon diff. on the 1st setting! Still need to figure out the low fuel settings this weekend as I will do a few hundred miles. Any recomedations for the trans. , products? Again, I dont do much towing, want to keep it simple, turbo upgrade to go along with the afe, 5" exhuast and edge! thanks

the low boost fueling is the amount of fuel you will get below 10psi---so its really your off-the-bottom low end acceleration. NADP,DTT,ATS, are the best places to start looking for trannys. then after that is done look for a turbo, make sure it is mached for the type of power and type of driving you wiil be doing. :D

Want a big turbo that has 0 jet lag? That would be the Diesel Dynamics/ Edge ball bearing turbo.

I have been running this thing for 15,000 miles and it is awesome. I am impressed that I do not have to build boost to 10 psi to get this thing spooled!

I wish I would have had this in my '01 2500. I had mega mods on that and it was FAST. I did have to wait to 10 psi to get my turbo going. .

There evidently was some issue with a couple of these ball bearing turbos. I have never had any problem but nonetheless, They have replaced mine with the new batch.

I repeat again, NO TURBO LAG!

Cheers, Bill
