Omaha Get-Together?

CO guage help

Hey guys, I had a great time. The weather sure could have cooperated a little more. A special thanks to Kevin and Elizabeth Whitmore for all their help in pulling this together. Another special thanks to Matt, Tom, Chris, Tim and Kev again for waking up my truck. My new bombs are sweet. I couldn't have done it without you guys.

Anyway, here's a few pics I took of the action:

Yes indeed

It was a great time and it sure was good to meet all the Wyo boys and do some chatting and bombing. Tim and Lisa are wonderful hosts and thanks alot to your folks Tim for the extra grub and the use of the power washer, that was nice to have I gotta get me one of those dudes. The lil woman and I had a great time at the concert too, man there was some folks there that I didnt even know, Cheyenne is a big city with all kinds of folks, I aint used to walking around in a place with all these strangers  course my town has dirt streets and not one stop light... ... ... ... ..... course we dont have any go lights either so the lil woman just tells me when to stop and go, usually the vehicle that is the biggest or in the worst condition has the right of way. The trip down and back was a treat getting to go on the interstate highway and all, 75 mph and let-er-roll, my rig preformed flawlessly I did get to blow away a Mini-pad on the way home too, he had a smaller 5er than mine and I pulled him easy on a big grade. I tried an experiment too by turning the comp off... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . I thought I had 8 flat tires  I will never do that again. I was very impressed with the gang from Laramie and Wyo Tech, its comforting to see hands on that the school is kicking out some knowledge on these young kids so they can help us old men out when we get in a pinch... ..... way to go guys. So until we meet this winter have a good one :)

Cheers, Kevin

Tim and Kevin, thanks for all the organizing. Since I left before the hat got passed, pm me with your addresses so I can send some $$$$$.

I had a blast too. Thanks to Tim and Kevin for their hard work in getting this together and their significant others that let it happen!

Thanks to Skydiver for a couple oysters (not the rocky mountain kind).

We'll all have to spin the rollers sometime soon...

I had a blast as everyone else did. Thanks to Tim and Lisa for being great hosts and everyone else that had a hand in it (Kevin for one). Sure was a lot BSing and little wrench turning and a lot of fun. I propose a fall dyno event somewhere in the area, like Laramie, Ft. Collins, or Cheyenne.

Chris

a great time had by all... good food; great to meet up with some new folks.

... and yet another 12valve woken up:D

thanks to Tim and Kevin for really setting this up. we will definately have to do it again!

Tom

btw... the truck is fixed... still a little leakage:mad: , but i'll have to replace the current silicone with RTV sealant

Tom, next time I want a ride in that thing. Jason told my dad that yer truck was the fastest in the lineup out there. The wife heard yours idle and said she want ours to do the same. It sounds bad a$$! Some big shower heads (and a south bend) may be in my near future. I sure do love the way mine is running now. I haven't had it on the test hill yet, but my bombitis has me curious as to what sliding the plate forward will do for me. I'll get that timing adjusted as well.

Just an FYI, somebody who was parked in that area nearly directly in front of the garage was leaking some diesel pretty good. I almost think it was about where Kev had his parked the second day. The trucks rear was down hill quite a bit and that may have caused the leak. It also just could have been drippins after you washed the under carriage, Kev. Anyhow anybody parked in that area might put their trucks front up on an incline and make sure yer not leaking anything.

tpc and the other Wyoming TDR'ers,

Thanks for the hospitable invite for me to join your get-together. Like I said, my brother-in-law and his wife are good about planning a full schedule when we visit them so I didn't want to put a kink in their plans by trying to squeeze in a trip up to Torrington.

I can't remember if you said there wasn't an official chapter yet here in this area, but there sure are enough Cummins runnin' around here to put one together if there isn't. I understand that you can tell what area of Wy a vehicle is from by the number on the left side of the plate. I know that with CFD going on one would expect to see trucks from all over, but I've seen a bunch from this area... . from '89 to '03. I'll be retiring from the USMC in about 10 months and heading for SF, SD... . I'm sure I'll be over your way on a regular basis.

By looking at the pics, it was a pretty good turn out.

Thanks again.

maybe that was my oil:confused: i didn't notice anything until i got to cheyenne saturday with matt and saw oil leaking from the bottom of my truck- lost 4 quarts. i thought that losing oil pressure 4 times that morning was just from the sender unit:eek: she's all fixed now. Tim- if there's anything i can do to help with cleanup, let me know. i hate to leave oil on peoples' property.

you can drive it next time around (it was just the oil problem this time that stopped anyone). anyone can who wants to... though it's no DTT'd truck. the idle has been tweaked a lot... yes:D it does run a little rough when cold, but i love the idle when it's warm so i'll keep it.

i'm sure that if Kevin can shift fast enough that he'll out accelerate me. he does have more power after the comp... and he does a lot better EGT's- ha:cool:

Matt says that he enjoyed it too and will join the TDR soon.

Tom

I drove my truck up on a steep incline and found no diesel leaks so it may not have been me, My overflow from the inbed tank goes into the oem tan and versa visa on the oem tank so I dont think it was mine

For all those outa-staters I want to let ya all know that in the middle of July you can have a bomb party in Wyo and use the hail to chill the keg :-laf :-laf :-laf

Rock On Dudes, Kevin

Not a big deal on the brown spot. I was mostly just concearned about yer rigs. :D We'll let the weeds grow back over and forget about it. It's brown, not black like Tom's oil leak, and it's about 2' wide and 5' long. I thought someone was leaking #2. Anyhow, when we gonna do this again?? I didn't get any flack from thy neighbors, so anytime here is cool with me.

We'll have to do a better job of hail collection next time for the keg! That woulda helped out.

OK, I had it on the test hill last night. Granted I had my XT600 in the bed (about 350 lbs), but I was down below 1/4 tank of fuel. NO change in accelleration. The test hill which R. ebel showed me is a fairly short and not terribly steep hill. We hit the bottom at 40 mph (in 4th gear for me) and nail the go pedal till we hit a specific road sign at the top. Before and now I'm going about 67-68 mph. I don't really need 5th gear, but 4th is almost if not at redline. (R. ebel's in the 90 mph range, I know I need a lot more parts to reach that, but I hole hartedly expected some gain)

I'll admit the accelleration from 0-40 is MUCH improved. The off the line is MUCH improved and the no defueling at 2600 is MUCH improved. But you guys know how bombitis works, I need more power!!:D

So Tom, to "slide the plate forward" do all I need to do is pull off the AFC houseing, loosen up the plate and slide it litarly forward? What else need I do? Smoke adjustment? I'm going to see about timing adjustment too, but that'll be later.

yes, just slide it forward. 1/8th inch usually inscreases about 10hp, but ovbiously various a lot from plate to plate. as you slide the plate more forward you'll get more smoke if you want it... . or just ease up on that start wheel for less low end smoke (towards the firewall). i'd slide it full forward and then back down from there so you know what type of powerband you're working at- but then again, the full forward is too addictive Oo.

and the clutch... ;) :D

Tom

oh, i forgot to mention. as you put the AFC housing back on, slide it forward as much as possible (which isn't far) which also acts like moving the afc spring forward. it's full forward as it is now. no biggy

Tom

Good times were plentyful!

We got back to Alabama @ 12:35 pm Sunday 7-27-03.

Really did enjoy all the good company. Some fine people living out west. I was truely amazed by the large number that turned out Friday night. Y'all made this ol country boy feel right at home. I only wished I had brought 3 bushels of oysters. Tim tell your folks the horse-divers were real tasty. And when I took the small portion of the 7-layer dip back to my wife at the motel she was real happy.

By the time we pulled into the driveway we had driven 3504 miles. The old 96 did not give us one ounce of trouble. But it sure did smoke alot @ 7500' above sea-level. That made me love my Cummins even more.

I stopped by my 2nd cousins home in western Oklahoma for a few nights on the way back. He drives a 99 4x4 Rewop-ekorts and I ran him crazy talking about all the Cummins trucks at Mr. tpcdrafting's home. But my cousin is just like the typical drof owner, you can't tell him anything. He still swears his tuck will out pull any Dodge or Shovelet built before 99. He even said he will buy any truck that will out pull his. I told you I ran him crazy talking Dodge Cummins and I ain't joking.

I can't wait till I can get back out west. The low or no humidity is cool. You just can't sweat.

Thanks again to all,

Tim

p. s. Whitmore,you got 1 nice truck.

skydiver - glad to have met you and glad you had a smooth trip. Thanks for lettin me have a couple real oysters - nothin better than a raw oyster. All we usually get are some RMOs (Rocky Mountain Oysters!)

THanks,

Jason

Skydiver, I'm glad you made it here and back with no troubles. I'm sure that Garmin came in handy a time or two. That's a nice toy to have on board. Thanks for the oysters and other goodies you dragged up with ya. Next time we'll expect to see some bombs on that '96. Tell your cousin he can come by and see some real diesels anytime. :p :D

PS - We didn't see Dad at all the next day cuz he was hung over soo bad. I told him he needed a little hair of the dog to cure it!

Skydiver, glad to hear you folks made it home safely and that you all enjoyed your time out here in Wyo, we did have a great time with all the bombing and oysters, burgers, brots and of course the beer too, OH and dont forget the hail storm, musta been a wierd experience for the down south folks. Thanks for the compliment on my truck!

Till we meet again

Cheers, Kevin

Last but not least!

To all who enjoyed the fine Gulf oysters. We need to thank AMF. He paid for more than half the oysters.

Thanks to Whitmore for the fine aluminum container of suds.

And a special thanks to Lisa C. for being a great host.

I can't wait to get back out west. Man I have sweated all day in this 90 + % humidity!!!

While we were on our vacation we went out to Granite Ca~n~on(20 miles west of Cheyenne on I-80)and the same Mexicans that bought my wifes old home place 20+ years ago were still living there. Pete Garagas allowed us inside only after my wife told him how every room was laid out. While we were inside he said he normally did not allow anyone in his home.

Pete is a great artist. He screen prints T-shirts and most are sold in the local shops. Luxury diner,Eagles nest. The visit to this old house really made my wife's day. While there I said something to her like are you ready to move back in your old home. She replyed "in a heart beat".

I will be watching the weather channel for Wyoming this winter.

Later Tim
