Because of this forum's topic... And because we allow vendor participation (and in fact, welcome it), this particular forum has become home to a lot of very extended and often quite redundant or circular discussions.

The rules have been changed somewhat - as of the first few days of the new year - and I am going to post some of the most relevant parts below. I encourage you to read them, I ask that you follow them carefully.

As you may have noticed, this forum now has two, instead of one, moderators, and different people, as well. Between Steve and I, we are going to do our best to bring this forum into compliance with the rules below. Because the nature of the posted rules below are often a matter of judgement by us who moderate it, I'm sure there are times you may disagree or feel we have not been perfectly consistent. If you believe this has happened, please feel free to send us a note via email. We are human, and our judgement is not perfect, nor perfectly consistent, either. We will do our best. You may also contact TDRadmin, if you have any further questions. But please note: While we will consider input, our decisions are only overruled by the administrator.

1. Username and Access (please read this guideline carefully). Subscribers may select a username of choice (all usernames will be screened for appropriateness - no profanity or vulgarity, etc. ) Each subscriber's last name (as it appears on his/her TDR subscription) will be included in his/her profile.

Vendor Note: Each active vendor/commercial subscriber (account) must have his or her business name incorporated into his or her signature block.

By requesting posting privileges on the TDR’s Website, you certify that all information you provide during the registration process is accurate.

2. Conduct. The TDR encourages lively and informative discussion among Discussion Forum participants. But keep it clean and productive. Do not use or allow others to use your subscription to:

2. 1. Post any form of solicitation on any Discussion Forum;

2. 2. Post or transmit any material that is mean-spirited, abusive, obscene, hateful, fraudulent, threatening, vulgar harassing, or defamatory (the use of symbols or characters to mask profanity and expletives is prohibited and undermines the spirit of these guidelines);

2. 3. Post, transmit or link to sexually explicit material;

2. 4. Post or transmit any material that you don’t have authorization to transmit under the law (copyrighted material);

2. 5. Intentionally violate any applicable law or regulation; or

2. 6. Knowingly post (or threaten to post) or transmit (or threaten to transmit) any file that contains computer viruses, corrupt files, or any other contaminating or destructive features that may damage computer equipment.

2. 7. Moderators may delete any post in violation of these guidelines.

4. Discussion Forums. The TDR Website Discussion Forum is designed to help owners solicit input from others on the proper maintenance and operation of their truck. Most truck enthusiasts want detailed information, thorough analysis, entertaining reading, and friendly (accurate) guidance. We recognize that while we have a lot of truck information in this forum, people sometimes post replies that are misleading, deceptive, or downright wrong. They may do this unintentionally or, sad to say, intentionally. Let’s change the timeworn axiom to read, "Let the ‘reader’ beware. " Use good common sense. Remember, we do not have the staff to mediate or "police" all of the information that is posted. Analyze thoroughly before taking any advice offered. The fundamental concept is that you should not rely solely upon any information or opinions you read. Rather, you should use what you read as a starting point for doing independent research on products and maintenance techniques.

4. 1. Keep your posts relevant to the topic at hand.

4. 2. Post your topic in the correct forum. Moderators will move posts that are incorrectly located.

4. 3. Moderators may delete posted items offered for sale within any Discussion Forum.

5. Vendor Participation: Vendor input and commentary is welcomed in our Discussion Forums, however, direct solicitation is not. Vendors have proven to provide insightful conversation and commentary. Demonstrate professionalism in all post to the TDR Discussion Forums. The following will be strictly enforced:

5. 1. The TDR Discussion Forums are not an appropriate forum for emotionally charged discussion between manufacturers, distributors, dealers, shops and/or users. These forums are intended to be technical resources for members interested in learning more about the proper care and maintenance of their trucks. All Vendors will refrain from making direct, emotionally charged, posts to and/or about competitors. All Vendor posts must be civil and technically oriented. If Vendors wish to compare products with competitors, use generic references (i. e. “oiled element air filter” as opposed to Amsoil, AFE and K&N).

5. 2. No direct solicitation pricing discussions are allowed on the TDR Discussion Forums. The discussion of prices is best left off-line in a private e-mail to those with interest as noted in the appropriate area of the Classified Advertisements. Why? Because many people who visit our Website do not want to pay to read solicitations and sales pitches in our technical Discussion Forums.

5. 3. Vendor participants must have their business name incorporated into their signature block. Vendors may include their business telephone number within their Profile so that it is available to other TDR website users.

I look forward to the new year and to the rapid development of a lot of new products that will find references here, and encourage your participation and do appreciate all the great posting and camraderie of our large readership.

Thank you all

Mark and Steve, herein lies the problem, with the aforementioned rules quoted above kept in mind, I have personally witnessed technically flawed information posted by at least several vendors on this forum that may (probably) or may not (doubtful) be aware of the accuracy of their information. The emotionally charged posts usually follow the technically flawed posts as the true experts in their field try and educate newer vendors that may or may not possess the level of expertise in the research and development of the subject being discussed. The real problem is, through technically flawed information conveyed here on the TDR BB regarding products said to do such and such when other experts know for fact that a product configured a certain way will not work as described..... because they already went down that research and development path as well as through the exhaustive testing phase before and KNOW of its shortcomings, it would seem to me the TDR would be doing a great disservice to its members by not allowing direct and pointed questions from other more knowledgeable experts as a form of cross examination of sorts. It is this "cross examination" that the other vendors do not like... it's taken as a challenge of sorts when in fact all some vendors want to do is expose the truth.

Well said John!

I would hate to see these rules used to stifle responses to someone who posts deliberately incorrect data in order to hype a product, ie, post a lie knowing that a response is forbidden. Such a response will always generate an emotional response from the original poster of the "attack the attacker" type instead of a factual defense of the product claims. That would be a LOT worse then the occasional row we get now!

hard job....

i know it is tough to moderate a forum like this... . but personally before i divert funds from house repairs/upgrades to a usually un-needed (especially in the fiance's eyes) 3/4ton diesel pickup bomb i've gotta know the bad and good. i think our group is pretty good at spotting truthful responses from overinflated mfrs claims and disgruntled buyer's gripes.

i'd like to sound off and help my bro's avoid a pitfall i may have taken, as i like to learn from other people's mistakes.

like i said... . i dunno... .

I don't mind the factual replies from Vendors to these spirited threads.

I get really upset by the "VENDORS" that start these
&quot:... solicitations and sales pitches in our technical Discussion Forums"

VERY GOOD

I know I am not alone in seeing the great efforts and difficulties in maintaining such an informative board... I do not know all your names but will extend sincere thanks to all for the great work and insight!

It has been my experience that the moderators on TDR are very fair and have the TDR members best interest at heart. I have been privatly emailed to let me know when I may have "broken" any rules set out in the forum guide lines. I can tell you for myself i really like the openess of the discussions on the bored, and the fact that I can talk to (and sometimes help) our end users.

I can tell you this, if the vendor is reputable, they will do there best to give only factual information, and play within the rules. If they think there product is as good as they say, they will let there product speak for itself.

The "All Vendors will refrain from making direct, emotionally charged, posts to and/or about competitors. " part in the guidelines was put there to try to limit the amount of bashing between vendors that happens on the site. We get many complaints regarding those threads, quite a few of those also advocate not allowing vendors to post at all because of it. We feel that the vendors have a lot of information to offer and want to welcome them. This is a compromise, all we are asking is that vendors not directly name a competitors product. An example could be when I make posts regarding the ladder bars that I'm distributing. If I am comparing them to other ladder bar setups I try not to mention brand names or model (unless it's a suggestion). Instead I will say something like "a ladder bar setup using a single bar mounted at the bottom of the axle and at the frame with bushings on solid mounts", instead of naming Rancho specifically. If someone is researching ladder bars they'll be able to tell what I mean when they look at their different options.

Now that only applies to vendors, being that the vendor has a vested interest. Users are not bound by the same restriction. We have always encouraged and will continue to encourage feedback on products both positive and negative from users. The only time we have gotten involved in a vendor complaint from a user was when it was taken to extremes and a campaign was underway. We asked that they take it offline unless they were specifically asked about it at that point because it had already gotten plenty of exposure (months worth).

Please don't take the revised guidelines as a major shift in policy on the site. The primary changes regard what vendors can post. They can still provide whatever information they want they just can't bash another vendor in doing so. We have been told many times by members that they don't want the forums to become a battle ground between vendors and that's what we're trying to address here.

TDR

The reason I joined the great TDR is to learn how to bomb my sleeping beast and to save money doing it. If some is selling the same product at a better price we all win, If the adults dont wont to read what venders have nobody is holding a gun to there heads so dont click on it.

You guys are doing a great job:D , and it's one that is mostly

thankless too. So Thanks!!

For what it's worth (yea, yea, quit laughing. . ) I agree with some of the members that don't mind the :-{} between vendors. You've got to admit, that some of the BEST information to be wrangled out of the TDR has been when the vendors :-{} .

I do agree that it needs to stay "bloodless", but confrontation does have it's place in information acquisition. . Just my $. 02 worth.
