Ever since I got my truck it had a pushbutton switch installed to crank it over - would not crank with the ignition switch. I finally decided to figure out what was wrong. A relay mounted on the driver's side fender was bad. I thought it was common sense not to mount these things with the plug pointing up! It was full of rust! Have to get a new one now :(
Does anyone know what the other two relays are for?

Yeah, there are several in there.

Fuel shut-off

A/C

Headlamp

and think there is another for sumth'n or other.

The book has a listing and location.

The relay closest to the hood hinge is the A/C clutch relay.

The second from the hinge is the Starter relay.

The third one from the hinge is the ASD relay. Auto shutdown relay.

I took this from the power train diagnostic procedures manual.

The switch on the firewall side of the hinge is the vacuum switch. This is mainly used to turn on the ABS light on your controll panel and to block the cruise control from functioning with low vaccum.

Relay replaced

I finally went to the parts store to get a new starter relay. They could not find one in the book, said I had to go to the dealer. I asked if they had a relay with a similar connection on the bottom that I could look at. Standard #RY30 - has the same terminals on the bottom, but they aren't shrouded and there is no bracket to mount it to the firewall - it's just a small black box with lugs sticking out. But it works! I'll just find a way to attach the metal bracket to it later.
