The SPA gauges are so superior to EVERYTHING else on the market it's not even funny. Once the microprocessor in the SPA gauge is setup with user/owner installed parameters, the backlighting doesn't even need to be turned on... the red and yellow warning lights (one for each of the two functions monitored per gauge) alert the driver to possible trouble. Additionally, the SPA gauges can trigger any number of external devices, such as (but NOT EVEN REMOTELY limited to), NoX and/or propane introduction at a certain boost, a controlled engine shut down if the oil temp drops below a preset figure, engine shut down based on EGT... ... as you can see, you are only limited by your imagination and knowledge of electronics. Very trick stuff! I had VDO Vision series gauges in my Ram before I upgraded to the SPA combination gauges, both are very high quality gauges (as are Autometer gauges) however, the SPA combination gauges are the best of the best!
I currently have three SPA combination gauges that monitor SIX functions... that's right, SIX, not three as the analog gauges do. The cash outlay for the three SPA gauges seemed kind of brutal at first... that is until I remembered I was actually buying six gauges. After actually having had them installed in my Ram for three weeks now I can say I have come to appreciate them more each time I drive. These bad boys are definite keepers!
