Bringing this thread back up...

If I'd go with 4. 10s would I hurt my gas mileage? Unloaded I think maybe, but pulling a trailer. I can do 75-80 on the highway here, but when I start pulling a grade... the engine is working HARD!

I'm trying to decide if I should regear, do transmission work or add more power. I think if I just add more power (comp box, etc), I'm going to smoke the transmission.

I would regear go 4. 10's. My truck has the 6 speed I'm moving up to 315's. Mainly because 4. 10's and stock tires, sucks. I would guess 4. 56 and 315's would suck as well. 315's and 4. 10's will put you close to where your truck was with stock tires. Since your not running a lot of power adds I don't see a grave reason to upgrade the trans. Even with a better trans you would still be lugging. And with a better converter you would probably just raise transmission temps by having it unlocked a lot while pulling. My old truck had 3. 55's and 315's and a auto and I went through the same thing you are going through.
