I have a similar one but it is has symetrical jaws and handles.

But now I get the 3Gen filters for my 2Gen because it has the "huge socket" type bottom and is plumb easy to loosen up from the bottom and then take it out the top.

I don't mess around with a wrench or pliers. I just use a long screw driver and hit the rim of the filter a few times to unscrew it. Quicker and easier. Less chance of hitting the alternator connection and shorting it out.

I have both channel lock small and large pliers and a set from napa that are medium size (used the most) I also have a strap wrench I got from CAT when I worked for a dealer in WV. Its big for the pick-up but verry strong stubern filters WILL come loose. tools are cool and the price of cool ain't cheep!
