Park it in front of the dealership!!PUT sings in windows so every one can read them. It worked. Only ford I bought dealer took care of it by noon.

This thread has been read by 570 people now. Maybe we should all call the dealership and ask for the sales manager and let him know this issue is written up on the 'net and nearly 600 people have read it - more every hour. We're all watching how this issue will be handled.

Just a thought.

Thanks Jay, I hope it won't be necessary but it would certainly be an effective bargaining tool because these guys have a fairly large stock of Dodge diesels and I'm sure they're not flyin' out the doors now with the price of diesel.

I talked to the dealer today and he offered a $145. refund and would send the truck back to the vendor for additional spray to thicken it up a little. The problem is that the prep wasn't done properly and it didn't adhere. You can peel it up off the rail with your fingers. My truck has Linex and there is a huge difference in thickness and how well it adheres. We are going to Linex to get an estimate on removal and reinstallation and maybe they help us build a case against the inferior product (Ameriguard) or how it was installed.

Let the dealer know ... . then tell them that you really don't know how he would handle this if it were his son. then explain that you belong to TDR and you have discussed this with the forum members and they are also interested in how the dealer will resolve this. Sticky situation. Treat this as a small thing, and the dealer will probably be more motivated to do something. Dealers want happy customers and believe me if you come back on this forum and post satisfactory results people will be more likely to do business w/ this dealer.

I gonna throw my $0. 02 in...

Cut you losses and DON'T let this dealer touch your truck again. Get your $300 or whatever he is offering you and do your research on reputable liner shop in your area.

If you let the dealer take care of the problem, who knows what the repair could look like. If they screwed up once (sub shop), they will screw it up again, only worse. Then you have the whole issue of the pimply teenage punk driving your $45k truck back and forth to the sub shop, not caring about it being a diesel and trying to do burnoffs with it.

Find a shop with the product you want, go talk to them about WHO will do the work (a first timer or someone with lots of experience). Spray in's are definately an art and you want the guy that knows what he is doing.

Finally, ask them how they will repair yours... how do they take the old out? Maybe you don't want to know...

You will never be happy with the dealer and he and the sub shop will make your truck worse.

No one touches my truck unless I personally interview them and let them know the truck is my baby and I'm super anal and they hopefully get that I'm the annoying customer that will "supervise" their every move...

Good luck on a resolution.

this is not worth an ulcer over, and yes i have had an issue here and there, some worthy and some not, pick the battles and get an ulcer over them.....

The dealer finally caved. Got a full refund. Guess they figured we wouldn't go away so they did what I suggested to them ... . go after the vendor who was a regular supplier for them not their loyal customer that keep them in business.

For breaking the cardinal rule ... . "never buy add ons from the dealer" we get to remove the defective liner. Good thing the surface prep sucked, it's coming out fairly easy. One problem is that in some areas like the bed sides, its so thin it won't peel. On the tailgate it was as thin as paper.

Linex uses a digital depth gauge to measure the thickness of the liner. I suggest that anyone getting a liner should make the vendor prove the thickness is to spec before it's paid for. It's too hard to tell by just looking at it and you can't go by the thickness where it was taped because it can be thin everywhere else.

It's good to hear that you at least got a full refund.

I was going to agree with Louis that you should get the heck away from that dealer and get your local Line-X place to take care of the removal.

I also got a dealer applied spray-in liner in my 3500 (which was for free ... long story). While they did a better surface prep than you got, it nevertheless turned out cosmetically crappy and was really thin in places (and they got overspray on several places on my cab as an extra bonus). I ended up taking it back to the Line-X shop that previously did my '07 Power Wagon and they were able to successfully overcoat the dealer's job and then topped it off with some Line-X Xtra (with the UV protectants and Kevlar in it), and it ended up being uniformly thick and great looking.

Good luck on getting the dealer coating off as well as getting a real Line-X job done right.
