How many of you had a Schwinn stingray bike as a kid?? Well they are back and I think they look real good. Schwinn got some design help from the boy at Orange Count Choppers and made a new stingray...

I'll have to go to my local walmart and check one out. Now I know my Daughter would not want one, but I just want to look at one.

As a kid I always wanted an apple crate, but the Parental guidance unites could not afford to buy me (and my brother) one.

My two older brothers each had one, including the streamers on the handbars. I rode one of them a bunch when I got a bit older. 3 speed and very heavy.

Cool bike.

When I was 12 years old my dad and I were fishing and found a Stingray that someone had thrown in the river. We pulled it out and it was in fairly good shape afer spending a little time cleaning it up. It had the 5-speed setup with a springer fork on it and a small front tire with a drum brake. I think it was called the Gray Ghost and was silver. It was stolen about 3 years later from the side of our house :(

Super Cool!!!

That's the one I had only it was silver. Oo. Oo.

Thanks for posting the pic.

I had a blue Schwinn stringray that I bought with money from my paper route in Helena, MT. I later purchased a Schwinn "Varsity" 10 speed from the same bike shop when I "upgraded" my after school job to work at a printing shop.

Today I pumped my "Gary Fisher" up Togwotee Pass as part of my spring get back in shape for trails routine. Going to have to change my name to Ol'Slug pretty soon. :D

I think I made an incorrect statement above. I don't think my brothers had the stingray, I think it may have been a corvette model. Full size, 26" wheels, 3 speed, hand brakes, heavy, handlebar streamers, chrome fenders, etc.

Hey Bob - I remember those! I didn't modify mine like that, but I remember some kids did. Is that you on that one?

My Stingray is in my garage (I suppose I should be embarrassed to admit I still have it). It's still decked out in it's motocross trim - I converted it in the mid '70s. I got one of the early sets of motocross handle bars (wide spread on them). I also still have the original banana seat and handle bars too.

Bought a pristine Schwinn Panther, 2 speed at a garage sale for $5, needed air in both tires. Old dude who was the original owner sold it to me. I later ran into a guy who works in the movie business, he offered me $2,500 for it, to use in movies. I should have taken it. Darn thing sits in my garage taking up space.

Heard Schwinn was making a limited supply of the Panters with a price tag of $5k.

Don't forget the Green "Pea Picker" that was the one that I had. Bob I forgot how many Choppers we made but they were a blast Till the forks came off!
