Lift Kit/Tires vs. gearing ratio

cold weather survey

Hard to argue with this. Also remember, the Cummins has 7 main bearings, not 5 like those weenie V8 car engines. :D #ad

Larry that looks like a E3 Navy ELINT plane. Do you fly one?

It's a KR2 I built in the late 80s. I flew it for 10 years and now it's in the basement. I may start flying again after my kids are gone. It has really small rods. :D

Keep up with the V8's? I don't have the power some of you guys do but when I'm pulling the travel trailer I sure don't have trouble keeping up with them. the engines were built for different service and the Cummins is real happy when pulling a load. Oo.

Trying to have the fastest truck can be a difficult project. Someone else is always likely to have a deeper wallet than you. Mine's stock, and goes fast enough for me, loaded or empty.

V8's Ha! The V10's can't even keep up, the V8's are a joke. The only RV that ever came close was a Dodge Ram with Cummins pulling a 20' travel trailer up a long hill on I5 in the Siskews. I had to let the EGT rise to 1400 for a short bit to pull away.

When I first discovered this board and started reading all the BS about how powerful and efficient these engines were I thought it was funny. The more I learned the more I was impressed. The rod picture above is just part of what makes this engine head and sholders above the rest.

Ahhh belEEEEEEEEEve!!!

Oh, ya gotta remember this is a Dodge site. We are allowed to be a bit proud here. (patting my own back) :D

Where's the Beef?

In the Cummins, that's where. Cummins aren't phony, 'wanna-be" truck engines. :D There is real meat to back 'em up, not just good marketing.

jdecampo... My brother inlaw has a 6. 5turbo , when we travel together towing our 5th wheels ( both 31foot ) I have to stay in front on the hills , his slows down to much when the grades exeed 4% , I have yet to hit a hill that I cannot maintain 60mph . This is where we separate the boy motors from the men motors. Nothing against his chevy , Its a great truck just a little of its league

I travel every summer with 3 friends. One V10 and two 460 gaspots. They weigh CGW 12,500, 11,000 and 13,300 respectivly. Mine weighs CGW 17,000+. I layed back one time about a mile when we hit the bottom of a 10mi long hill. I held 70 all the way over the top and they all three slowed to 40mph. When I passed them it made both of us weave all over the road from the wind blast. I have taken to following as apposed to leading because I get tired of waiting at the top. This gets my mileage up to about 15mpg while they are getting 6-8mpg. I get tired of waiting at gas stations too.

Man life is tough:( They feel real sorry for me!:D

Now that story tells the real difference, Larry. jdecampo is just trying to defend his "lesser" truck. I am normally a Chevy man and not trying to knock you jdecampo, but when it comes to diesels, there is no question, Dodge/Cummins is the way to go. I got over my pointless brand loyalty and went with the smart choice. If Chevy had the Cummins, I'd be all over it. :D

Hey guys, I know the Cummins is a better motor than the 6. 5. I was just funnin with you guys. I also never have trouble with my motor. If I knew what I know today I would have chosen something different but live and learn, right. The most I tow is a camper, around 6500lbs or a car trailer with a lifted GM on it that weighs around 9000lbs. I never see the 35 or 45mph speeds you guys mention towing up hills. I have never gone below 60mph on a hill with the loads above. Its not pushing it, and it will downshift on a large hill but it goes. I put propane on it and haven't towed yet but it should help.

Lets keep it above the belt.

I never meant to go below the belt, honestly, but aren't you the one who brought up "the fella that brags about his mechanical rod is making up for the lack of rod in their pants. . " Just funnin in return, couldn't pass that up... :D :D I know... I'm a smart a$$... :-laf

I've had several GM trucks that I liked, but this 1st gen is my favorite. Bought the truck because I knew I'd like the engine and hoped I could stand the truck in time. Ended up happy with the whole combo. Still surprised about that. :D Like you say, j, live and learn. If you're happy with the GM, that's what matters.

jdecampo . . No offence friend... I'VE HATTED trucks , dodge and inline 6 motors up until a year ago , I will be the first to admit... . boy was I walking down the wrong road :{
