Well, I finally got sick of taking my truck my truck to the dealer for this ticking noise I had. I took it in twice fir a valve tick, and both times they told me "it is a normal diesel noise, compare it to another". I pulled the valve cover off it, and sure enough, cyl#5 and 6 exhaust was at . 030". I got them all adjusted, guess what ..... NO MORE NOISE! I will have to call the dealer and tell them a random act of miracles fixed the "normal" noise. :rolleyes:

Half the trouble is that . 030" on the exhaust is within the allowable range of . 015-. 030 so a tech checking it out might think its ok. Glad you got it fixed.

I was constant and it would change with engine speed, always a consistent increase or decrease. It was just like a lifter tick. All the dealers within a 25 mile radius are horrible! We are pretty much screwed in this area here! :{

What's with the "allowable range of . 015 . 030"?

My 95 has an allowable range of +/- . 002". Did they really open it up that much?

My 05 is doing the same thing, deffinatly valve lash noise. My valve cover says to adjust the intakes at . 010 and exhaust at . 020 cold.
