You may have remembered a while back I was jumping ship for a new Chevy. Well, I'm back ( with tail b/t my legs) as I ended up canceling the new truck order. It's mainly for financial reasons (MY truck + $23K) / Build backlog delay & not for the love of Chrysler- DC corp. My next new truck still will never be a Dodge, but, damn, I do love the my Cummins 12V. Besides, I've been with the TDR since 97, and I find our website to be much more interesting. Plus, I like Geno's Garage for stuff !!!

Ron

PS- I'm still no fan of DC, and never will be !

Your Truck +$23,000?

How much is one of those Duraslacks? Maybe I can afford a newer truck! Yours is one of the more desirable models! ('98 12 valve)

Welcome back!

MSRP was $45K for a 3500 LT Crew Cab 4X4 Duramax / Allison with all of the few options left like locking diff, tires, camper pkg, towing pkg... . etc. Was getting for $1K over cost (around $40+K)

Too frickin expensive!

One of these days there will be a thirty year note available for new truck purchases, wait and see it'll happen!! That's the only way to buy one and afford it for alot of folks!!

So they were only showing you $17,000 for yours? Let me know when the "Dark Urge" stikes again!! I would be interested in your "old" truck.

:( Chuby builds a fair truck. Phord too. Like anything else they need a little care and will usually last a long time. Now with that said, think about this before you buy the Dura????. Chuby has never, and I mean never built a good solid diesel truck in the area of a pick up or sureburp-an. Good lord knows they tried, but they always let the consumer figure out that it is not very good diesel wise. Maybe they got it right this time, I do not know:rolleyes: Only time will tell. Isuzu builds a fair diesel and has been doing it a long time. Problem is, Chuby's got a hold of it now. What did they do to the engine?? At $45,000 for one of theirs I could buy two of mine, and it came fully loaded and I only gave $28,800 for it. I've out run the ones Ive seen over in Idaho (home state for me), Utah and California. In Montanna and this was with a full load at 9,000 + lbs I tracked one from Missoula and let him break the wind for me. When we got to the hill (Look Out Pass going to Spokan) he had a problem. Just could not cut the mustard going up. About about two miles from the top I pulled up beside him at 75, hesitated just a touch so he could get a good look and then hit the hammer and just left him at will. He tried but had nothing left. :D :D :D Stick with the Cummins, that's were the pull is.

I know that pass well! Its a good one, but no match for the Cummins!:D :D

BTW, FF1063, welcome back. :)

Thanks for the responses, Glad to be back.

Dealer only would go $19K, brought back in to the wholesaler who went $19. 5K, about the best I could get from Edmunds / KBB,

Go around, you will be surprised to see just what your truck is really worth as a trade-in. $19. 5 = $21+K with the sales tax incentive, I figured , not bad, getting 2/3 of what I paid 4 years ago and 70K miles. Also, included in price was a 6/100K $0 ded. GM warranty, Yes, I got screwed once by our buddy "DC".

A few things that I did not like about the Cheby was that they still keep the frame to low, still only 215's and the dually, and the color choices. Other than that, its pretty classy. Been reading of a ticking problems with the Durathingy. I read that the Allison 1000 will only be exclusve to Cheby for two years, I'd put my money on a 2003 Cummins / Allison combo, wait , am I thinking about another Dodge ????

MMMM,,At only a $17,000 allowance for your 98 I'd have to say that the Duraslack dealer was taking you for a BIGTIME ride,,Especially if all the components you have listed were left on,,The next time that you go "Crossing to the Dark Side" and get wanting a Duraslack or Powerpuke drop me a note asap,,At that kind of change I'll hand deliever the check for your truck in as much time as it takes me to get from my house in central PA to yours on the Island,,Talk about making my head spin,a person wanting to trade a Intense Blue 3500 12v for a Duraslack,PHEW!!!!!,,I know that the truck needs a good home now,,After all you hurt its feelings thinking about the Chuvy,so let me add it to my stable and give it a home for towing around my 2500,,Think about it,Intense Blue 3500 and my Flame Red rocket, what a deal and a picture... ... .

Anyone know how the Duramax's are holding up? Haven't heard much about problems, etc and was just wondering. I don't think I would trade my Cummin's for one until they have had a little time to work out any potential bugs. :D

Durapuke problems

 My brother in law builds trannys for chuby and have been informed by him that theyhave had a few problems with the head gasget blowing and warping the heads, which leads to alot of down time in the shop. they have had a few other minor problems but nothing on the transmission. All praise and love for the allison. My local dealer said they were told not to discuss problem with engine and leave it at that.

:D A friend of mine went over to Umatilla, Oregon to pick up a new 14,000 lb equipment trailer. He drives a Phord, but his wife is smart as they come. She's got a brand new 2500 Cummins with just the basic stuff. It is a nice truck. Anyway he goes over to pick up this trailer. The guy he is getting it from has a Durra???. Only it is his second one in 4 months. 1st one was lemon. Chuby gave him a new truck and asked him to be quiet.  They advertise that the stock hp is around 310 with tq at 520. This new one they gave him has 360 hp and and 580 tq. According to him this thing is suppose to be stock, but since he had such a bad time with the first one with all it's problems, they just gave him this one and called it even. He was told that their (Chuby's) mechanics had gone over it and made some adjustment to compensate for the lemon he got the first time. So he is pretty happy with a free truck. That's the way the story was told to me. I can neither confirm nor deny as to it's validity, due to not having met the fellow in person. But I'm not suprised either. Makes you wonder though.

as for D-max problems...

Just my personal history around the D-max:

I was driving out to Cali last week, and I came up on this brand new Chevy 2500 Duramax, still had the dealer plates and everything. We were both empty, and I was giving my new PE Comp it's first big test run, so I thought I'd see if he wanted to play. He did, so we hit it pretty hard on a fairly steep hill near Kingman AZ. I admit that I was cheating with the Comp, so when I flew by him laughing he got a bit bitter. I couldn't believe what happened next. I was looking in my rear-view taking in the view, when all of a sudden balck smoke started coming out from the pipe and under the hood, and he hit the hazard lights! Last I saw he was pulling over to the side of the road, probably cussing like mad. Could this have been the dreaded blown aluminum head that I've heard about? Makes me glad I drive a Cummins.

 You got to be kidding!! An aluminum head. What are they thinkin - oh never mind - they are not thinking. As far a cheating goes, I think not. They tout a V8 that is at least 2 liters bigger in volumn. So we give ourself the ability to add a little more fuel to make an equal fight of it. All we are doing is using the same amount of fuel they are and most of the time less. :D :D :D

Sounds like you were offered $1k over invoice, not $1k over cost. My brother has his order in for the 3/4 ton with every option you mentioned plus leather, for $39,000.
