Ok, first off, let me introduce myself. My name is Scott Collins, and I bought a used '98 Dodge Ram 2500 Regular Cab, long bed 4x4 with the Cummins Diesel and Automatic about 2 weeks ago. The truck has about 98,000 miles on in currently. Since its a Cummins, I'm not worried about the mileage. Anyway, I've been reading this website, and others, like crazy learning about my truck.
Now, to my group buy idea. I see that Carl (wwcd2) puts together a lot of group buys, and I've got the ultimate group buy idea! Hopefully this hasn't been done already, as I really need this part! Here is the part I have in mind:
FUEL TANK SENDING UNITS!!!!

Put me down for 5 of these babies!

I think my current sending unit is going south. I've put in 135 miles since I fueled up, and yesterday the needle was down to about 7/8ths. Today, as I was driving to work, I noticed that the needle was pegged. Ok, maybe diesel expands when it gets colder out (about 43 degrees overnight. ) NOT! Still pegged when I came home tonight. From the service history I have, I see that the sending unit was last replaced on 8/31/99. The dealer report says it has an extended warranty contract, but I don't know when it expires. Maybe I should find out! After reading about all of the sending unit failures, you would think DC would redesign this piece of crap.
