The major install is done. I took tons of pics. They're in my gallery. Here's a taste if I can post a pic correctly. Let me know what you think. :D

Thanks for the advice... hope some of you take some of mine sometime.....

Way to go with all the pics! I noticed you put 5. 25" in the rear doors. I was thinking of changing my rear doors to these

but they are 6. 5". The tech dude says they should fit. Anyone go to 6. 5's in the rear doors?

just be careful that the 6. 5s aren't too deep... . I was going to put my infinity kappas in from my old truck, but they didn't fit...

Tunes

Nice job and great pics!

I just did something similar last Friday. Pulled the factory POS and put in a Pioneer 7600 (CD,MP3,WMA,XM) and Infinity Reference all around. DCX sure does make it easy to take their dash assemblies apart!

Got it all from Crutchfield - everything was pretty much as expected. The XM antenna is nice and small - went through the 3rd brake light and used some silicone to ensure the seal. Ran the wire along the headliner and down the C pillar to the floor and tucked the wire. Put the XM box under the driver's seat.

I put matching Infinity 6. 5's in both the front and the rears. The fronts fit fine - did have to drill one hole there. For the rear, I used one of the speed clip holes and the rest I drilled.

The front dash got 3. 5" Reference speakers. I tapped those in through the crutchfield harness. Needed an offset screwdriver to tighten those screws.

How did that sound? Plenty of highs as you can imagine! To finish off the setup, I installed an Infinity Basslink (had it from a previous vehicle). Overall the balance of sound is great, but it takes some adjusting to go to/from diffferent formats and media to get the sound just right. All things considered, the install was easy and the result is outstanding!

Now I spend my time annoying the g/f constantly selecting tunes, stations, etc.

Colonel, is it really that easy to remove the front door panel, "Two screws at the bottom of the panel are removed, then the center screw, and finally using a Torx 40 bit a screw holding on the door handle, plus disconnect the two plugs"?

Karl

When I put the 5. 25's in the rear doors on mine I noticed that they were a little small for the original opening. I was only able to use 3 screws. I think the 6. 5's would fit fine or maybe with a little trimming.

The door panel on my 04 has two philips screws at the bottom, one behind the door handle (handle should be removed prior), and one up by the A-pillar. The door handle is held on by a 10mm bolt. The 05's may be different.

Oops, forgot about the philips on top of the front door panels. Thanks for the clarification.

Karl... . it is that easy just like Jeff said... the door handle can be removed by either a 10mm or by the Torx 40 bit. I just used the Torx bit b/c I had the screw gun handy at the time. That's all you need to do and once all of the hardware is removed just lift up on the door panel to release the "panel anchors" (best way I guess to describe them) from the holes that they are in.

Finish install looks great, What piece did you use to surround the stereo unit with?

Sorry Greyout...

I forgot to answer your question... . dash kits are available at Best Buy, Circuit City, The Good Guys, etc. Places like that... . the one I used was a Metra kit. Can't remember the model #... .

I used this brand of kits and wiring harnesses back when I was installing for a living and never had any problems.

Thanks Jeff and Colonel102. I assume you just have to pull the handle back to get at the 10mm/torx screw to get the handle off.

Karl

With a long 10mm socket and a handle driver (as opposed to a wrench - you know, like a screwdriver), you don't really have to open the handle - but pulling it up does give you the visual of what you're unscrewing.

Knob.....

Grant,

I think you're talking about the auto 4x4 transfer case knob... . turn it to whatever setting you want... 2wd... 4wd high... 4wd low... and neutral.

I got that as an option b/c I had the manual transfer case in my last truck and just wanted something different. It's unusually warm in Omaha now so tryin' it out in the snow will come a little later. :-laf

ahh, i see... i have a 2wd... so thats why i didnt know what it is. and i didnt even think about 4x4 because i didnt need another tow... even though thats what this is becomming... a toy to tow my toy..... who had the install plate for the stereo? im thinking i need an MP3 player as well... .

Do you think the Infinity 62. 5i Kappa will fit, they require a 2 1/8 mounting depth? Crutchfield's site says they don't fit but do you think I'd be able to modify the depth with a spacer? The Reference 6002si requires a 1 7/8 depth.

I would think it'd be pretty easy to fiture out if that Inifinity would fit - just pop the door off, unscrew the speaker and measure it. Heck, you could even tape a spacer block of the appropriate size to the stock speaker to do a real fit test.
