I don't know about you guys, but spending at least $4k at a transmission shop (I'm going to avoid naming names because I know where that ends up), is a huge barrier for me.

People keep telling me that 50 extra HP is it before I start trashing the transmission...

There has got to be some things a shadetree mechanic such as myself can do to beef up the transmission at least a little to handle some more than 50 hp. I just can't stand staying completely stock for the long haul of saving that much money...

I do know that every transmission is different, and mine might hold more than 50hp, but I'm not someone who likes to break things and then worry about it... I like to prevent such occurances.

What can I do? I've heard shift kits are popular, but I don't think they do anything for power handling?

Trans

A DTT Valve Body would be a good start for about $400. (Increasing the line pressure) There is no substitute for a good aftermarket transmission! AND YES... ... . $4000 is hard to swallow but worth it everytime I put it in gear & more IMPORTANTLY when I tow!

Good luck,

transmission

Chris, it seems that Dave Miller is still running his stock transmission. I have no idea what he's done to keep it good.

i have 95,000 on my truck and a comp box and even on level 5 on the Hwy WOT it will not slip the trans thats over 100hp and over 300ft. lb.

but you never know it could go at any time!!

i have heard a shift kit and a valve body will help alot and get the line pre. up and that will help also,

but yes $4000 is allot but do it once and it's done !!

I blew my auto at 13,000 miles with an EZ box (65HP) pulling a 10k gooseneck. It was the first time I towed it, and the last time for the auto! The truck was completely stock before that, and the EZ was only on it for about 1,000 miles
