Competition 4lhr as lower turbo on twins?

Does anyone out there know where to get parts coated with a thermal barrier coating that is tough enough and durable enough to take the E. G. T. abuse that we inflict upon our engines?

I have heard horror stories about coating coming off the piston tops and screwing the cylinder bore up- I was thinking about getting piston tops done and valves but am a little uneasy after hearing that.

coating the pistons is mainly used for deflecting heat away from the piston isnt it? like a ceramic coating. would anodizing do that? i am going to build a motor from scratch and coat the pistons too, but like racin says, that would be a hard bullet to bite, losing a motor because of it. has anyone ran coatings from dps? www.dps-performance.com $38/ piston isnt too bad and its less than . 001 thick. who can anodize pistons? and what does the teflon skirts do for it? just thought i would try and learn some more about this while the subject is up.

thanks

mjoppie-

I have never heard of this hard anodizing of the piston tops like Comp is talkin about. Sounds to me like an introduction to an embrittlement problem that I dont want goin on in my new build. What I am asking about is a Ultra Hi Temp or Thermal Barrier for the piston tops themselves- used to deflect heat soak- And the Teflon Coating is the equivelent of an additional 'dry' lube that stays on the skirt itself. Help the piston go through its motion in the bore easier. I was just feelin the members fpr any feedback-good or bad. I've been waitin for these Puulin guys to chime in cause I hear that they have the experience w- coatings. Come on pullers!

I had the thermal barrier coating done on the tops and the solid dry film done on the skirts in my puller. They still looked like new after one pulling season.

I work with a guy who builds Saab's. He has had one or two record setting cars. He told me that HPC did all the piston tops of his engines. He said that under 36psi  (that is what he was runnin in one saab) the pistons would melt. After the coatings, he said he never had another problem, and even after competing in some saab challenge thingy, the car still ran great.

Just what I have learned.
