My 2500 has always ran a little high on the gauge just on the right side of the 190 degree mark. On a recent rip with about 9000 of trailer it would climb to 210 on the long steep hills. I change the thermostat to a 180. Now the truck run a little cooler, but on hard acceleration it climbs to 190 then drop back when idling. (without a trailer) I am beginning to think the original and my replacement thermastat may be in upside down

The heavy end was in the block and the spring on the radiator side.

Is this correct?

Temperature guage

My 99 would always read around 180 unless I was pulling then it would hit 190-195 and stay there until I started down hill or running on flat ground.

Also, something to keep in mind, these gauges aren't the most accurate out there. The readings you are getting may very well be normal.

I have a 180* thermostat and mine pretty does the same thing. When I'm towing, it will move to like 190* degrees or more and get to the same temp as when I had the 190* thermostat. Unloaded, it runs much cooler than a 190* thermostat.

180 vs 190

What's the general feeling on thermo's 180 or 190. ? I don't usually pull a trailer. I've had the truck a week now, runs right at 190.

180-190 t-stat

I changed mine for it was running up to 200 pulling, with the 180 ive never seen it past 190. seem's to like the 180 t-stat better.
