Installing homebuilt 4 inch on the '96. My downpipe is close to the firewall and I was thinking maybe some header wrap might work here?? I used it on my 454 trucks before and it cut down on the underhood temps alot. Any reason why I would not want to do this here? Thanks for any input.

I've done it and so have several others. I don't have anything negative to say about it, and I don't think I have heard anybody else with negative comments.

No reason you don't want to do it at all. In fact it should help the efficiency of the turbo a tiny bit keeping the heat in the pipe where it belongs.

With the New HX-40 turbo my down pipe i really close to the firewall. I pulled the down pipe firday on wrapped it with the header rap and then sealed it with a spray on stuff. It dropped the noise level in the cab. :D

The fine print on most header wrap products will tell you it voids warranty.

That said, Detroit Diesel offers a fully jacketed exhaust mainfold and turbine portion of the turbocharger on the series 50.

We use exhaust blankets for the customers that specify a jacketed exhaust.

long time to hurt the pipe?

won't the muff. rust out before the rap deteriorates the exaust pipe?... . I'm willing to try it for the sound proofing.

That stuff can make the pipes really brittle due to all the heat trapped in the pipe. Its more of a problem with gassers but it still is not a good thing lol. I decided NO on that stuff when I saw a BROKEN header
