whats up people. first off, this site kicks almost as much ass as Pirate4x4.com:D

ok, i recently picked up 01 ETH/DEE. i think its got a set of 275's in it because it smokes, and has gobs of power. i tow a rockcrawler behind me regularly and have no gauges yet. i do however have a Banks pyro that was in my old chebby 6. 5 POS. will this banks thermocouple be compatible with other gauges???? i just need this in NOW as towing in the sierras with a MAYBE bombed rig scares me. anyway, when funds allow me, ill be pickin up some nice gauges and want to know if i can reuse the banks thermocouple. THANKS!

When you say you have a pyro, do you mean the thermocouple?, Or do you have the gauge, wiring and thermocouple as a complete kit?

BTW- Welcome to the site!

i have a gauge>>>>>>>no thermocouple. i was going to buy the thermocouple as a replacement to get this gauge to work for right now. later(a few weeks) i was going to buy a new set of gauges and was wondering if the replacement thermocouple would work with other gauges... . clear as mud???:p

Also, you have to know whether the gauge requires a grounded or ungrounded thermocouple. Check with Banks and see what they require for their gauge. If it's an analog gauge it's probably grounded.

Repear the TDR MANTRA after me.....

"I am my own warranty station, I am my own warranty station. "

If you want to mix and match different gauges with different thermocouples AND you've satisfied yourself that the configuration is compatible AND you can believe your own eyes  then go for it!!! Just bear in mind, if you have any sort of problem/glitch, then you'll get ZERO sympathy from either manufacturer concerned AND it'll turn into a finger-pointing exercise.....

If you have not mistaken the healthy stock power of the Cummins, you could have larger injectors than 275's. Especially if you have more than just a puff under low boost acceleration. 275's alone wont give you a ton of performance but they are nice nonetheless. Pyro is a must if your seeing good black smoke.

yes... im starting to think this... ive driven other CTD in the past ut this is far different. i get ALOT of black smoke under hard acceleration. what can i look for in identifing injectors???

Either contact the previous owner, or pull the injectors and have them flow tested. If you have no little black boxes hooked up, and you are smoking, either bigger injectors, or a boost problem. You have power, so that rules out the boost.

im no rocket scientist... but i know for a fact i dont have a boost problem because the smoke clears right up when i hear/feel the turbo catch up. as far as flow testing the injectors..... can anyone tell me or shoot me a link to the flow rates for differnt injectors?? thanks for the replys!

Contact the manufacturer of the gauge and ask what type of TC it needs. There are many type of TC out there, but I bet you need a K Type as previously stated.

One more thing. Make sure it has a shielded junction. An Exposed Junction TC will last about a day, and then EGT will read zero.
