I am researching pyrometers, and would prefer not to have to install a weld bushing for the thermocouple. ISSPRO offers a probe that installs with a large hose clamp, and Autometer ONLY offers the band-type probe.

My question is, are the band-type probes reliable as far as leaks? I'll be installing it post-turbo in the down pipe, so it'll be near the center of the bend in the pipe. Autometer's installation instructions seem to imply this is not a problem.

Does anyone out there have any experience with such an installation? I would really prefer to avoid a large under-hood exhaust leak!

I don't have a lot of experience with different pyro's, but the autometer thermocouple is threaded into the band. You can thread it out, drill a hole, thread the hole and install the probe in your manifold without the hose clamp.
