I recently decided I need a thermos. Something tough (stainless steel), with about 1 quart capacity.

Went to Target and looked at the nice Thermos-brand and Stanley-brand offerings.

I was appauled to find them all made in China.

Anyone got a recommendation on a nice US-made piece?

I think my Valvoline thermos was "hecho en Chin". Might explain why it kept my tea hot for a loooong time. :D A US-made thermos might be a little spendy.

Any members handy with stainless, metal-working and welding? This'd be a good shop project!

Be carefull with what China calls stainless... Take your magnet.

I have not seen anything anything like that that wasnt made in China lately.

I will keep my eye out.

I thought about that, but if I made one it would be so big and heavy as to be totally impractical.

In fact, upon discovering they were all Chinese in the store, I commented to my wife, "maybe I can make my own . . . out of iron!".

I'm a dork.

Looked a bit on ebay, and there are some antiques out there for sale. Didn't see anything I really liked (yet).
