I just received new thermostats for my trucks. I had replaced the original with after market ones. The trucks always run hotter with them than the original. I also noticed the gauge fluctuating Hot to cold. The new thermostats are genuine cummins. They were pricy but are a different design than aftermarket. I think the difference is what caused the problem. Has anyone else had this problem.

I changed out for a 'cheap' one and it didn't look as good. I experienced the same fluctuations so I now have a correct one in the hole.

I had the fluctuation problem with my 92 and the original thermostat. I went back with a new one from Mopar and it stayed steady and a lot lower in temp. It went back to the bottom of the normal zone.

I still got the original thermostat in mine. Works fine and lasts a long time!

Yup, I put a cheap-o-matic thermostat in one of my trucks, wish I never did. That thing will have to come out; gauge is doing the insane bit too #ad

HEY GUYS OVERHEARD YOUR THREAD RE-T/STAT,I'M ON MY SECOND GENERATION CUMMINS,HAD SAME PROBLEM WITH BOTH,ALWAYS FACTORY STAT GOOD IDEA,YES GAUGE GOES NUTS BECAUSE STAT NOT WORKING CORECTLY AND CLUTCH FAN KICKING IN AND OUT. ALSO I DO BELIEVE JIGGLE PINS ALSO HAVE TO BE POSITIONED PROPERLY,JUST PUT NEW STAT IN MY 981/2 24 VALVE WITH 35OOO MILES FROM NEW THE GAUGE WAS NUTS,SO I DO BELIEVE JIGGLE PINS HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT,ANYWAY IT IS EASY ENOUGH TO TAKE APART AND CHECK OUT FOR YOURSELF. GOOD LUCK JDM JOE

GLAD (or SAD!) to see others share my experience... When I recently swapped my early '91 radiator for a new '93, I *thought* it would be smart to put in a new thermostat to replace the original, since I had to remove the housing anyway - BAD move!

The new, Dodge spec thermostat was a different design from the original, and jumped up and down like a yo-yo... SOOooo, I carefully checked out the old original, which was in perfect physical condition, and put it back into service.

It works perfectly!

"Dura" WHAT? NOW I know where all those recycled beer cans go...

My original thermostat failed open a couple of months ago, had a few cold rides to work until I replaced it with one from Lordco. Replacement one appeared to stick and bring engine water temp up, then open and temp would drop nearly to the bottom of the gauge. After 6 weeks of operation seems to be OK.
