What have some of you paid for the thermostat? I just called Cummins and they quoted me 63. 95:eek: I won't be replacing it for a few days so I can look elsewhere if a better deal is to be found. Local dealer is closed now so I don't know what they will be.

Thanks, Duane

In another thread a member bought a thermostat from NAPA. Cost under $10 and he is happy with how it works. Maybe the aftermarket is finally coming through for us!

Check the construction of both. I think I read that the NAPA versions were not as beefy, but that needs to be checked.

I just put in the NAPA. The port and actuator are smaller but it worked fine on my first mtn. trip. The Cummins stat only lasted about 40k miles (it got sticky) but I'm sure the cycling in the 12 valve had a lot to do with that. It wouldn't open all the way and then it stuck 1/2 way open when I tested it on the stove. Craig

so which one is better the 180 or 190 and why also when pulling heavy loads the fan runs alot is this normal it sure isn't hot outside about 65 to 70 degrees maby i need a new thermostat

Thanks for all the info, I picked one up at my local Dodge dealer for $35. It is in a Cummins box with the Cummins part number, I could have searched other places but the distance I would have had to travel to get it made paying this worth it. Cummins in Salt Lake didn't give me a choice and I didn't think to specify the temp, next time I will. Thanks again!

I got the same price quote here in Baltimore and asked if that included the mechanic to put it in. He laughed. I asked Jim Anderson and he said that it should not need to be replaced for at least 100000 miles If you change the antifreeze every 30K miles. And the cummins rep said that if your engine comes with a 190 you should always put the same back in. Just a FYI
